WELCOME to the CHOC Talk, the message forums of the CHOC Board (the Christian Homeschool Online Community Board for westside, and general, Portland, OR). These forums act as "classified ads" and message boards for Christian homeschoolers, and businesses and organizations that serve homeschoolers, to connect with each other to share specific details and information, including time-sensitive events, useful to the homeschool community. The forums are also a great place to connect with other like-minded individuals. Please feel free to contribute knowledge of an upcoming event, fun outing, great activity, new class starting, or query others about a homeschool issue or share homeschool ideas. The forum headings show what topics should go where. The sticky topics in each forum tell how to post and what is allowed (please remain respectful of a Christian worldview and always friendly, wholesome, and truthful). This is the interactive side of our CHOC board "directory" where you in the homeschool community can help generate those great ideas that get archived on our website! (To see the CHOC Board website, please click on our logo above). So join in the fun, post, and connect!

Any girls who love dogs out there?

Hi. I am a homeschool mom of 2, both girls.
Ages 11 & 14. We have homeschooled for 9 years.

My oldest (Emily) would love to connect with another homeschooler who enjoys dogs. She has a purebred that she runs agility with and 2 mixed breeds also. Anyway, I posted the Bark in the Park info and Emily will be in an agility demonstration with her dog that day.

Even a penpal would be great! Emily is a little on the shy side until she gets to know you. She loves to read and is interested in growing in her walk with the Lord.

Thanks for reading this!

Hi Kelsey,

Where do you do your agility?

We've been guide dog puppy raisers for 7 years, and have 2 dogs of our own, Irene, who is a guide dog "career change"...our first project who didn't make the program due to food allergies (who would think a lab could be allergic to food!), and Scottie, a Sheltie, who is my fluff (yes, shamelessly mom's fluff).

My oldest daughter (20) is still a leader in our guide dog club, and my middle daughter (17 almost 18) just finished our 6th puppy project, Rose, who is back at the Boring campus working through the guide program (go Rose!).

My oldest and I have done some agility with our dogs (Irene the lab and Scottie my sheltie)...so I'm just curious where you are doing your agility. Have you found a club for your daughter?

PM me if you need to keep answers off board.
Thanks,
TammyA

We go through Columbia Agility Team (CAT). They have a web site you can check out. Our barn in just past Forest Grove in Dilley. I think they have one in Wilsonville also.

She loves her Junior class and teacher. We really enjoy it.

Re: Agility and dogs

Ah, I know the barn! We took a couple of CAT classes there...with Kitty Ware. We really enjoyed it too.

We were also in a 4H dog group for a number of years with Fran Sittel (I think that group has disbanded).

Washington County 4h was trying to get an agility dog team going back then but it ran into obstacles (no pun intended)...

BTW...Mike Rice at Rice Farms (see the CHOC Board "Local Activities and Programs" page for the link)...was interested in opening his barn up to extra agility practice as the CAT barn was spendier and often booked. He's out at he's at the next exit after North Plains? about 1/2 way to Forest Grove)..don't know if he followed through on that. We took our equipment out there a number of times when my eldest was taking horse back riding lessons.

In Him,
Tammy
