WELCOME to the CHOC Talk, the message forums of the CHOC Board (the Christian Homeschool Online Community Board for westside, and general, Portland, OR). These forums act as "classified ads" and message boards for Christian homeschoolers, and businesses and organizations that serve homeschoolers, to connect with each other to share specific details and information, including time-sensitive events, useful to the homeschool community. The forums are also a great place to connect with other like-minded individuals. Please feel free to contribute knowledge of an upcoming event, fun outing, great activity, new class starting, or query others about a homeschool issue or share homeschool ideas. The forum headings show what topics should go where. The sticky topics in each forum tell how to post and what is allowed (please remain respectful of a Christian worldview and always friendly, wholesome, and truthful). This is the interactive side of our CHOC board "directory" where you in the homeschool community can help generate those great ideas that get archived on our website! (To see the CHOC Board website, please click on our logo above). So join in the fun, post, and connect!

Recommend movie Expelled

My middle daughter and I saw the movie "Expelled" this weekend after reading Chuck Colson's recommendation in "Breakpoint." (You can see that at: http://www.breakpoint.org/listingarticle.asp?ID=7746)

I highly, highly recommend the movie to adults and children old enough to understand the issues at hand (I would say generally 12 and older).

It was a very well done documentary which developed the quest of:

1. Is Intelligent design being surpressed in the professional/educational science community?

2. Does Intelligent Design deserve to be surpressed because it is simply ridiculous?

3. Why then is it being surpressed?

4. What should we do about this?

Some of the photos shown about the effects of Darwinistic thinking do show quick snaps of holocaust victims and scenes...and the reporter does visit several holocaust institutions.

Language was overall respectful...there might have been a single "h" or "d" but it was very fleeting...I don't remember anything really vulgar.

Issues are mature...the movie deals with reproductive sterilization, holocaust, euthanasia, suicide, suppression of opinion, communism...all in response to people taking the Darwinistic approach to its logical conclusion.

This film is secular, God is not specifically glorified, however many of the pro-ID scientists are Christians...and the overriding theme is obvious that once you acknowledge the evidence of ID, a Creator-God becomes a credible possiblity.

Richard Dawkins' final admission is stunning. (Be sure to catch it!)

Thought for further discussion of the film: Discuss with your older children if freedom of speech always produces truth.

Again, I highly recommend seeing this film not only for its content but also as a message to Hollywood and the science community.

Blessings,
TammyA
