WELCOME to the CHOC Talk, the message forums of the CHOC Board (the Christian Homeschool Online Community Board for westside, and general, Portland, OR). These forums act as "classified ads" and message boards for Christian homeschoolers, and businesses and organizations that serve homeschoolers, to connect with each other to share specific details and information, including time-sensitive events, useful to the homeschool community. The forums are also a great place to connect with other like-minded individuals. Please feel free to contribute knowledge of an upcoming event, fun outing, great activity, new class starting, or query others about a homeschool issue or share homeschool ideas. The forum headings show what topics should go where. The sticky topics in each forum tell how to post and what is allowed (please remain respectful of a Christian worldview and always friendly, wholesome, and truthful). This is the interactive side of our CHOC board "directory" where you in the homeschool community can help generate those great ideas that get archived on our website! (To see the CHOC Board website, please click on our logo above). So join in the fun, post, and connect!

Free Online Math Literacy Tests from Savvy Minds

FREE ONLINE MATH LITERACY TESTS FROM SAVVY MINDS

We just created free math literacy tests to help you place a student into an appropriate math class. Now you can quickly assess a student's proficiency for a prerequisite math course. Each 10 minute literacy test is just 10 questions long and is designed to reveal if a student has a basic level of understanding of an entire year of math. http://www.savvyminds.org/Passessindex.htm

Here's how it works. Say you're trying to decide whether a student is ready for Algebra, have the student take the Pre-Algebra Literacy Test. If the student passed a prior Pre-Algebra class he or she should score nearly 10/10 on our literacy test. A poor score is a red flag that the student does not grasp the basic concepts of Pre-Algebra. This would indicate a need for more review before moving being placed in an Algebra class. (A score of 10/10 does not mean a student is an expert. These tests just cover the basics.)

Call me old fashioned but I believe in providing web resources that are free of cost, free of advertising, free of passwords and distractions. The following link go directly to individual the tests:
