Got Gas?
Well as we enter the third gas "crisis" in my lifetime, this time around there seems to be no shortage involved.
OK, we all know the price of gas is a hot topic. All I can say is I'm glad I've got a fleet of small fuel efficient cars. Heck even a performance car like my SE-R gets 32 mpg. Not a bad deal at all for a car that can win ice races regularly.
These days I only use my gas guzzling F150 when I need to tow something. Today I even did some food shopping on my bicycle! Of course the way I eat and being over 40, some additional exercise is a good idea.
The good news is, [knock on wood] that racing gasoline seems unaffected so far. I'm still paying about $5.50 a gallon for leaded racing gas, the same as I have for 15 or more years. Anyone know why race gas prices haven't followed pump gas prices? Different refineries?

Re: Got Gas?
Great question Mike, I have no idea on the answer, but am happy to hear it since I cut my "A" class ice race car fuel with 50% premium and 50% race gas. We only have diesels for our regular cars none get less than 37MPG in the city! Except the Dodge Diesel truck of course.

Re: Got Gas?
I think the the cost of race gas doen't fluctuate with pump gas mainly because it doesn't really come from oil. Its a little known fact that race gas is derived from boiled down rat milk. Ok, obviously I don't know either. All joking aside, I think that I'll pickup an older VW deisel in order run it on biodeisel. Even though it is a little more expensive (2-5 cents), the fact that its not derived from oil should provide some price stability as the cost of oil and its refined derivitives continues to rise. Besides, I don't feel too good about contributing to the mess in the middle east any way you look at it. As far as bikes go, I have always been into riding and hope more people through a leg over and get out and ride for fun and exercise as well as economy.

Josh you never fail to amaze me!
I was thinking today that the sales of hybrid cars will surely soar now. I have a neighbor with a Toyota Prius. I asked him about the gas mileage. He said "about 55 in the city." I said, "Wow, how many on the highway?" He informed me that hybrid cars get less mileage on the highway than they do in the city. He said it is because on the highway the gas engine is used virtually all of the time. In the city it isn't. Anyone know more about it?
How long will batteries last and how much to dispose/replace them?

Re: Got Gas?
That battery thing, life and disposal, plus cost of replacement,is getting to be an issue.
btw; I recently took two trips,vacation type,and got 40+mpg with my ZX2/SR.

Re: Got Gas?
I do not know about NY state, but when I lived in Az racing fuel was not taxed by the state, hence the lower price. This was about 6 years ago so things may have changed out there since then.

Re: Got Gas?
Speaking of fuel prices.....My DODGE diesel drinks about 500 gallons a month!!!!!!!! There were lots of AMEC members at the SAAB convention this weekend and I ran into SL driver Eric Nelson ....he has been producing a BIO-DIESEL fuel for his Powerstroke diesel at the tune of eighty cents per gallon!!!!! Methanol,Lye, and Mcdonalds grease are the main ingredients???
Josh teresco, Sam Patterson, Darryl Carl were also at the convention...All checking out the nicest SAABS in the country.

I had plans this weekend that fell through. I forgot all about the Saab convention. I would have liked to have gone.
Claude, did you ask Eric where the heck he's been? He's never run in an SL race. If I recall correctly, he last raced with us in the [new at the time] rubber to ice class in '99. He drove that 900 dirt stocker without the windshield. He joined us for some Lime Rock Corvair Club events too.
Claude, was Bruce Turk there with any of his 93's?
