Hey Bill, I'm sorry we didn't get to meet too. Next time for sure. Which presentation did you do? Was it the one on Perth track?

It breaks my heart. I drive by Victoria speedway (on route 20) once or twice a week and for the last month or two there have been bulldozers in there and the speedway looks like it is reverting back to pasture land for the horses. They are flattening the place out. A perfectly good race track gone, that just stinks.

Victoria was a neat race track. Too bad it wasn't able to continue. I guess it was like so many other race tracks at the time.

I guess the thing that made Victoria so neat was the same thing that made it hard to run: the paper clip shape. It allowed for guys like Jack Farquhar and Roger Gauthier to win. I am hoping I can manage to share a couple of Vickie photos, if I can negotiate the system.

I resized the pics they were a bit large.

Spraynine Corporate is inviting the public to stop by their Johnstown location on July 2nd from 4pm-7pm to see the line of racecars to be on display in their parking lot.

Jay Blake, founder, owner, and crew chief, of Follow A Dream Racing, stated, “This relationship continues to be a great opportunity for both Permatex and Follow A Dream. We are extremely proud to be working with a company that is so highly respected in the industry, and we continue to rely on their outstanding products to keep our car competitive.”

What is remarkable about the Follow A Dream Racing Team is that, while it has been winning at the Nationals level, its owner and crew chief, Jay Blake, is totally blind. Jay lost his eyesight in a tire explosion over nine years ago, but he did not lose his positive attitude on life, nor his desire to pursue his dreams. Jay had always wanted to form his own race team, and in spite of losing his eyesight, he continued to focus on his goals. Through years of incredible determination and perseverance, he was able to realize his dream and founded the Follow A Dream Racing Team. The team has worked its way up the rankings with David Ray driving, and has become one of the top Funny Car teams in the world.

While he has worked incredibly hard to build his team, Jay Blake has also worked to encourage others to overcome adversity. For the past seven years, he has toured the country as a motivational speaker at hospitals, rehabs centers, corporations, and Vo-tech schools, encouraging people to believe that they can rise above adversity and achieve their life’s goals.

Also on hand will be Danny Ody with his Spray nine sponsored IMCA Car, Sprint Cars, Vintage Flathead modified.

Also on hand will be Chad King with his Sprint Car, and Slingshot

We will be having extra firesuits and helmets availible to try on and can actually sit in a race car. Free Certified award sheets will be handed out to each child. Great fun for the kids and get your picture taken in the car

Longtime car owner Cliff Wright of over 60 years, including NASCAR teams and has had great drivers from Howie Westervelt, Kenny Shoemaker, Richie Evans, Don Wyman, Don MacTavish, drove the famous Tollgate Ice Cream #24. Stop by and talk some history with Cliff.

I got over to my friend Ken Gypson's garage the other night and took these pics of his historic stock car. This car ran locally at Pine Bowl and Victoria Speedways. Ken salvaged it from Wait's junkyard [across the street from the old Pine Bowl Speedway] in the 80's. It's a 37 Ford Tudor flat back. It was driven by Gordie Film and owned by Al Visconti.

It's a small world. I was at the local car cruise tonight in Poestenkill. By chance I met a fellow with a gold '78 Trans Am. At first I had no idea who I was talking to. Then we formally introduced ourselves and he said his name was Gary Film. Film I said? The same name as Gordy Film that used to drive the car above at Pine Bowl in the 50's? He said yes, that Gordy was a cousin of his.

Gary went on to say that he and his brother Anson chipped in and bought a race car together out at Pine Bowl [a '49 Mercury] one afternoon from another racer that could not get it to run right. They paid $35 for it and took it home. There determined that all that was wrong with it was the spark plug wires were mixed up. The flathead ran perfectly after that. They raced that car as #13 in 1962 at both Pine Bowl and Empire Speedways in Menands. Gary was 15 at the time but managed to race anyway by using his brother's name [Anson] who was 18. They took turns racing the car each week.

It was a nice surprise to meet this gent and bring back some memories from our former local speedways.
