Danny,
That is so cool! I've been to O'Kenney's before. Neat place. I hope you will be bringing your newly aquired pics of Carroll's Grove. Got to see them!
Thanks for letting us know and I'll see you there on Wednesday night.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Hey, I was wondering if there were any of those old speedway presentations happening at the Saratoga museum anytime soon?

Welcome to our message boards Peter.
The "Lost Speedway" events are relatively new as I believe the first one was in the Spring of '07. So far to date they have had three of them. It appears that they may be doing it twice a year now. The third one was this Spring back on April 27th [as discussed earlier in this thread] and hopefully they will follow it up with another in the Fall. I just checked the Saratoga Auto Museum website and did not see a date for the Fall event yet.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
my friend and i recently began researching these old tracks and it jogged my memory of my former neighbor
he informed me of a track that his son used to race with his friends back in the 70s.
it was not a well known track in fact i believe the only people that knew of it were the kids that raced it in the glory days of stock car racing
i recently confirmed what my beliefs were upon stumbling on the outline on google earth of a vague oval shape
the track is now sitting right next to west road in the brunswick hills but back when my neighbors son ran it the access was through broadview terrace ext. (now known as pickering lane)
if you get the chance to look it up the coordinates google earth gives for the straightaway that helped me find it are 42 44 03.55 north and 73 38 53.17 west if you know ANYTHING more about this track let me know i would love to hear more because the former neighbor works 20 hours a day for the most part

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Anthony, welcome to our message boards, and to this excellent historic racing thread. If there is anyone who may know about the mystery track in question, it will be Danny Ody. The only track in Brunswick that I am aware of was Carroll's Grove off of Carroll's Grove Road. Incidently, I saw Danny last night at the 1st annual historic race car show he mentioned a few posts ago. He had some newly aquired pics from Carroll's Grove. I will post them next.
For now though, lets hope Danny or someone else will have some information on the track you have asked about.
Mike

Newly unearthed pictures!
Thanks to Danny Ody, there are some pictures from the former Carroll's Grove Speedway, in Brunswick, NY. Although Danny has an unbelievable collection of vintage stock car racing photos in his collection, he never had any of the illusive Carroll's Grove.
That all change this Spring when he obtained copied of 80 pictures from someone he met at this Spring's "Lost Speedways" presentation in Saratoga.
Up until now, all I could gather about the track [from a local gent in Brunswick named Jimmy who spectated there 45 or so years ago] was that it was pretty basic, not much more than an oval carved out in a farmer's field. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much. The following pics show that Carroll's Grove was a bonafide racing facility and was a bit more refined than Jimmy remembered.
All from Carroll's Grove and all thanks to Danny Ody.
