Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Here are some pics from the show last night. There were some really period correct and quality old racecars there!
This car was at last night's show. This thing is period correct!
Notice the extra shock absorber only on the right front wheel.
Here's a shot inside the "office" of the black #196.
This car has a great story. It was originally run at Brewerton Speedway about 40 years ago. It was covered up and put away pretty much the way you see it here, and was preserved for all of these years. I don't know the rest of the story as to why, but it was sold on ebay recently to **** Kaner in Poestenkill. **** said he had to free up the engine and get it running again, but otherwise it is about as original and untouched as you can get folks!
**** said the Mercury flathead had a 4" stroker crank in it when he took it apart to free it up.
My son mark sitting in Bob Hart's track roadster. Bob's from East Nassau, NY and his car is powered by a V8-60 flathead Ford with twin downdraft carbs.
I didn't get any info on this car. Anyone know who's it is?
And last but not least.....our friend Bruce Dostal in his #69 Sportsman small block car at [I believe] Albany Saratoga Speedway way back in the day!

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Thanks for posting the photos Mike I was hoping you would post some. I wish I could have been there. We went to Albany Saratoga speedway and Fonda alot with my dad and brother in the 60's and eary 70's it was a good time to watch local racing. No cookie cutter cars back then.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Anthony,Thanks for joining the message board
I am not aware of any track in Troy racing in the 1970s. Maybe what you are speaking of could be a car field track.I tried to find it on google. You can try to use Terra-Server. These images were taken in the 1990s some times can show more than recent images on google.... But, not very far form where you are talking about 2-3 miles away was a track on Rt.2 about a mile east out side of Troy right next to a golf course,on Shippie Lane. The track was named Clearview Speedway (aka Shippies),a 1/2 mile dirt track that raced in the late 1930s

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Here are more complete details regarding the above Jokers dirt stocker.
It was built in 1957 and raced by Ed Gardner of Brewerton, NY. The car was raced at Milray, Weedsport, Syracuse, and other Central New York tracks with 8 feature wins. Ed stopped running the car in 1962. The car sat in his garage UNTOUCHED for 46 years! As stated earlier in this thread, **** Kaner of Poestenkill bought the car on Ebay for just $2,300 and is the current owner.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
I have had reports on a old race track in Crescent between Latham and Clifton Park, north of Albany that raced sometime in the mid to late 1940s. Anyone have any info?

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Wow that looks like a recetrack to me Danny. Nice detective work. The picture makes it look almost too good. Maybe someone's using it as a horse track nowadays?
