Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Dan,
Good to see you're still busy keeping up the history work. After my computer failed, I had a n awful time finding this site again. Hoepfully we will run into each other again soon.

If anyone is still reading this thread, I found a few old photos of the Schuylerville track courtesy of the Hoffer Family of Argyle. Check for the Hoffer page on my site:

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Thanks for chiming in Bill. This thread will always be kept alive. We just haven't had anything to add to it as of late.
I'm told there will be some more vintage dirt car shows in our area this year. I heard something about a new one at the Jericho Drive In in Glenmont, NY. I'll post details as soon as I get them. Danny might know more about it.
Bruce Dostil is nearing completion of a resoration of an old coupe with a big block Chevy in it. I'll have more details when I talk to him again. Not sure if it was one of his old cars or not. I keep asking him for pictures but I don't think he does the digital camera thing. If someone sees his freshly restored coupe at a spring mall show coming up shortly, please take pics!

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Bruce Dostals restored Coupe was at the Rotterdam mall car show a few weeks ago and it looks great! I think it has a few of the original parts but not many. I didn't take photos.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Bruces car is a close facsimile of one of his old cars. There is almost nothing off his old cars. He never ran a big block. I asked him why this car has one, he said it was because he had one sitting under the bench.
He asked me once if it looked like the old car. I said no, it is too shiny.
For those that don't know. I was Bruces pit crew for a lot of his races.
Bruce is now looking for a Falcon to replicate the one that he spectacularly destroyed at Fonda.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
****,
I recall your name in those days, although I lived way up on the Canadian border in Vermont. Bruce called me this week and emailed me photos of the restored car. It's great, but my favorite is the one he ran on dirt at Fonda and on pavement at Malta. Tracks like Fonda and others would not have prospered without the Vedders, Kollars, Dostals and Roots - type of guys who made up the backbone of these tracks.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Darn if I posted the info for the July 7th race car show at O'Kenney's and then missed it because of vacation. But I'll make the next one on Tuesday night August 11th, at the Jericho Drive-In.
Did anyone else go? Got any pics?
