Let's take a look at Empire Speedway
This was the paved 1/4 mile oval in Menands years ago. Take a look at this incredible aerial shot and all of the people in it. Local stock car racing was a huge back in the day!
There used to be a drive-in movie theater right behind it. It was called the Twin Cities drive-in. They used to race on Wednesday nights here, so as not to interfere with the drive-in movies on the weekends.
You can see the Troy-Menands bridge in the backround if this one. The former Two Guys parking lot and I-787 run right over the property where this track and Drive-In used to be!

I lived in Village One apartments for a couple of years while attending Siena College. Remnants of this track were (are) probably buried under the complex somewhere. I remember a drive-in across Route 32 - I think it was even still open about 14 years ago (that makes me feel old!). I'm pretty sure it was called the Twin Cities - could it have been relocated or was (or is) it in the same location?

Im trying to get some information from #95 about historic racer #400...
Hopefully I can get something good...
I know he did alot in that era....we just have to spark the fire and Im sure he would love to chat about it......

"LOST SPEEDWAYS TWO" GETTING BIGGER EVERY DAY
Saratoga Springs, NY. When the Saratoga Automobile Museum's Lost Speedways Two gets the green flag at 1 pm on Saturday, November 24th, the program will expand on April's extremely popular Lost Speedways presentation.
Ken Gypson will return to discuss the Pine Bowl, Burden Lake and Rt. 66 Speedways and will add Shippey's Speedway, a favorite haunt of the immortal Lee Wallard, to his presentation. Les King, whose talk on the Altamont Fairgrounds was an April hit, will also relate tales of the Empire Raceway in Menands. And those who remember the Warrensburg Speedway will enjoy Tom Remington's recollections of the North Country speedplant.
Vermont's Bill Ladabouche will show photos and discuss the Stateline, Fair Haven, Rutland and Catamount speedways, while Ed Biittig will tell the story of Richmondville's Sky High Speedway. Noted publisher and racer Lew Boyd will travel from Boston to recall the glory days of the Midstate Speedway in Morris and the Cairo Speedway.
National Speed Sport News columnist Gary London will tow in from Long Island to recall the glory days of Islip and Freeport Stadium, with a few more speakers currently making arrangements to participate.
Besides the speakers and their illustrations, collectors Dan Ody, Gypson, John Grady, King, Ladabouche, Otto Graham and Rick Perry, among others, will be on hand to share their photo and memorabilia collections. Tables will also be available for visitors to display their treasures to fellow fans, all under the watchful eye of a crew of museum volunteers.
Other highlights will include old movies by Syracuse's Don Bartlett that will bring the Waterloo, Watertown and other long-gone tracks back to life for the day, audience participation segments and a video camera set-up to record everyone's recollections of their favorite speedways for posterity.
Pack your car with your treasures, polish up your favorite stories and recruit a friend to share the fun. We'll be there until the last tale has been told and all your old friendships renewed.
The Saratoga Automobile Museum is located on the Avenue of the Pines in the Saratoga Spa State Park. More information on the museum, the Racing in New York gallery and the current Golub Gallery exhibit, Barn Finds, is available online at www.saratogaautomuseum.org.

Guys,
Can anyone tell me what vehicles they were getting these 3/4 ton looking front axles from back then? Is this a front end from a Chevy pickup or something like that?
It all looks so heavy! And the huge slicks. Did they need stuff this big?
