Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
The track was probaly the Charlton course.
The drive an owner of the 750 GT was Gordy Morris from Northville. He really could drive. Gordy also had a Jag XK140 convertable. He, Sherm Haven and I went to an SCCA drivers school at Watkins Glen to get our license.
I have vague memory of the Morgan and the name Russ Kincaid.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
This is a follow up regarding the inquiry by former A.M.E.C. ice racer and Morgan driver, Russ Kincaid. This was forwarded to me by John Alderson, of the UK. He goes by "Jake" and he is doing research for a book about the history of Morgan automobiles. Jake is seeking A.M.E.C. ice racing results from the earliest days of our club. Below is what he has found so far.
Dear Michael,
The wonderful lady at the Crandall Public Library in Glenn Falls, NY supplied the results and date of the 1966 ice races, as attached. The newspaper date is presumably just after that weekend. Now trying for the earlier inaugural event. The lady found
nothing for 1965, so trying 1964.
Regards
Jake

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Wonderful resource ! I am Bill Ladabouche, who is referred to as speaking at the Saratoga Lost Race Track conferences. I was particularly excited to see shots of the 685's. I always liked the 1938 version. If you guys need any info from the Vermont side of things, let me know. I am at wladabou (at)comcast(dot) net.

That picture of #90 you have is from Catamount Stadium. Ed DOggett. Plymouth, NH - one of [if the THE] first Chevelle- bodied late model sportsman cars in Northern NASCAR.Doggett always was associated with Mosely's Express out of Plymouth. About a year later. almost every car at Catamount was a '64 Chevelle.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Bill, welcome to our boards and thanks for the compliment on this historic thread. I've been to your Catamount website pages and spent hours enjoying your archives. As you noticed, there are a few pics from your excellent site in this thread.
Keep up the great work!
Mike

That is typical of short track racers, once the hot car was a sedan over coupes, then Valiants,Gremlins etc. Seem to remember Novas in there too.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
Yes,
While your modifieds went the Gremlin/ Pinto etc. route, our late model sportsman cars up here did the '57 Chevy, 64 Chevelle. 72 Nova, etc route... ending up with those damned plastic cars.

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
I am experimenting with how to place photos on one of these messages. I'd like some of you in the Capital District to help ID some of these pictures I have picked up from various contributors.
1.This first one was actually resued out of the announcer's tower at Catamount just before it was demolished in 1988: I know it's Dee Goodermotte, but do we know any of the others?

2. I took this one myself, at Fairmont Speedway, in 1963. Anyone ever seen it before ?

I guess I'd better see if these work before I try more.
Thanks,
Bill
[Edit: I hyperlinked the picture addresses for you Bill]

Re: Historic racing in the Capital District
I cut and pasted the photo links to look at them and don't recognize the people or cars, sorry.
