Re: Official 2008 Rally thread
Several sanctioning bodies held their first rally event of 2008 this past weekend.
The Rally America season opener, the SnoDrift Rally was held in MI. Travis Pastrana was leading by 1 min. 44 sec. in his Subaru WRX during the last stage of the rally. Take a look at what ended his rally HERE.
The WRC opned it's season with the Monte Carlo Rally. Talk about close calls, rally leader Sebastion Loeb almost ran over a police officer that was carelessly crossing the road while telling spectators to move back. Take a look HERE.

Look again at the second clip. It happens quickly. The Citroen C4 speeds by and missed hitting the copper by about 2 inches.

Re: Official 2008 Rally thread
I am making final preparations on my 4WD Sentra for next Saturday's Vermont Winter Challenge TSD rally out of Barre, VT. This is an all night TSD rally on snow covered roads in northern VT and western NH. It starts 8:30 pm and goes until about 5:00 am. I heard they got a nice snowfall up there yesterday and I am thrilled about that. I've been pre-registered for a couple of months now, so I don't know if there are any openings left, but what a great time this event is. To reserve a space & receive an Official Entry package contact Ted Goddard, Registrar, P.O.Box 267, Perkinsville, VT 05151. tel: 802-263-5678; fax: 802-263-9540; email: tedgcb (at)tds(dot)net
Here's a description of last winter's event:

Re: Official 2008 Rally thread
Wow that sounds like fun.. I've never done TSD but wanted to try it... And in the snow on back roads at night? Nice!
Unfortunately, I will be on the other side of the country that weekend Are they having any more of these this winter?

Re: Official 2008 Rally thread
Not that I am aware of. This is the only TSD that I would choose over an ice race. Yes, it is that good!

Vermont Winter Rally update........
I am about to head up to Barre for the winter rally. The 4WD Sentra wagon is packed to the hilt, studded tires, jack, tools, shovels, electric impact gun, tow strap, orange triangle, food, water, and an extra car battery [you never know when the alternator might quit in the middle of the night]. Steve is bringing a 1,000,000 watt spotlight and plenty of Red Bull.
The latest road and weather report from a local in northern VT:
We were in the valley today, so traveled the main roads and back roads. Many of the tarred back roads still have some ice and patches. The gravel roads are snow and ice packed but well sanded. The amount of snow is dependent on the altitude. At our place (approx 2000ft) the banks vary from 4 to 7 ft. Down closer to the river, less snow and the banks are 2 to 4 ft. Saturday is suppose to be partly clear and cool- maybe 20s, maybe some snow showers.
Plan for the event: Stay on the road. Bring it back in one piece.
