Re: 2008 Glad Rag Euro-Rallycross

What a terrific time we had to day up at Glad Rag Speedway. Hats off to Top Cat for organizing this event and bringing back the excitement to our "off season".

It would not have been possible without our loyal and dedicated crew including Mike Glock, **** Vedder, Ken Marshall, Matt Galusha, Jeff Nicol, Dave Burnham, and others who pitched in to make it all a success.

Once again, ace photographer Uncle Jeffy came through in the clutch and clicked off some stupendous action photos. Wait until you see the LeMans style start!

Here is a list of the cars and drivers who raced today:

1. #1 Dave Burnham '91 Honda Civic
2. #34 Mark Long '86 Honda Civic
3. #24 George Lyons '90 VW Golf
4. #57 Shannon Kelsey '97 Mitsubishi Mirage
5. #7 Tom Compoli '86 Toyota Corolla SR5 [RWD]
6. #46 Mike Kamm '93 Toyota Paseo
7. #80 Rick Hill '89 Mazda MX6 Turbo

We decided to run all 7 cars together in each race so everyone got plenty of seat time! There were 4 heat races and a feature. Starting order was drawn from a hat. Subsequent starts were from the finish of each heat race, but inverted. Just like in the Menard classes, faster cars in the rear each time.

Original start order

1. #80 RP class [turbocharged]
2. #7 SS class
3. #34 SS class
4. #57 SS class
5. #46 SS class
6. #1 SS class

I had a great time and am looking forward to some photos, I have a few photos of the pits but they don't do it justice. Thanks go out to Tom for taking the initiative to get it done; we need more new young guys like that in the club, some of us old ones are burned out! Thank you also to the rest of the workers that gave up their Sunday for us to have some fun.

Sounds like you guys had a blast!!! Sorry we couldn't make it. Between racing two nights a weekend with two racecars to maintain on a weekly basis and the shop overwhelming with work(lost my ace mechanic),it's tough to add more stuff to an already crazy schedule. Claude emoticon

Thanks Claude,

Trust me, we understand completely!

I missed not having guys like yourself, Jr., Eric Roscoe, and John Subik there. It wasn't quite the same without you guys there.

I will agree, the more folks who can come out the better, even if just to watch. We certainly did miss all the "regulers" who were not on hand.

I know know Mike is going to pop in here and write captions for the pictures, but I just have to post this one.
This was not staged, Mike hit the bump at the end of the drag strip just right (or wrong).

Thanks to eveyone who worked the event. Also thanks to the person who used my camera to video the feature. The unedited low res version is here.

Rick, The class name "race prepped" was Top Cat's idea. It is the same class as the former "Turbo" class. It includes anything with a turbo, AWD, [or both] and all dune buggies. emoticon
