Hi Mike, I am not in it for the trophy or glory just for fun. Most hybrids do best in the city too at slow speeds. If we get more diesels then we could have another class otherwise I am cool with it.

That's fine then. I don't really know how the hybrids work. I'm guessing they can drive around on just the electric motor if they want to and use no gas at all for a finite distance?

I'll ask them on the hybrid forums.

Some of them (hybrids) get 60+ mpg in the city and 45 on the highway. It takes a lot more power to go faster. Our tour is sort of faster than slower with few stops and starts that’s were the hybrids have there advantage as far as I know.

I like your attitude Dave.

You do realize that these serious Prius hypermilers are packing 100+ miles per gallon right?

They are going to kick our royal butts and we're fine with it. emoticon

It all works for me. Its a ride thruough the adirondacks in the fall, with other car people and AMEC members what could be better than that!

Some of my best AMEC memories have been riding thru the mountains checking lakes for ice racing we live in a great part of the world.

I decided to step up my game a notch and bought one of these.

Although I can't use it on my B210, it will be really helpful in my Protege. I can also diagnose check engine light codes and clear them if I want to. I needed a scan tool anyway and this thing does it all!

After driving my wife's Saab I really came to appreciate the onboard fuel mileage display features. Now I can have the same in any '96 and up OBD II equipped car. It is the only way to really know whether a particular fuel saving driving technique actually works or not. Their website is here.

I'm not too surprised Richard. Month's ago when you said on this forum that you got 40 mpg with your ZX2 I thought you were stretching the truth a bit. But now I know differently! At the time I was getting 32 with my SE-R [same size engine, five speed, car weight etc.] so I thought it couldn't be done. If my SE-R was on the road this summer I'm quite confident that I'd be getting 40 mpg by now too. emoticon

I never owned a car newer than '93 either, until last fall when my 2000 Protege came to me for just $250 and I just couldn't say no. I don't regret buying it one bit.
