Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Mike, I never stretch the truth. My 40mpg trips have only happened three times. The first two I was not trying, just a liesurly drive with few hills and little traffic.
Acctually, the economy run was harder because of conditions, hills, rain etc.
In reality though, I can alost always exceed 35 mpg. In recent trips to Lime Rock I got between 36/37.
Dave, not owning an OBD 2 car just means you are frugal.

Biodiesel? How are we going to measure the usage on that?

In his own words: "I'll bring my own B100 for the pre-fill at the station. The post event top-off can be the petrodiesel to allow consumption measurement."

We should confiscate the bio container until after the event.

I'm sure Jonathan won't have a problem with that. Don't forget that the gas doors will be sealed with tamper proof tags too.

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Two questions for you.
One is, would it be ok to ADD weight to our vehicles? My truck's milage doesn't seem to change much due to load and it sounds like we won't have a lot of starting and stopping. If a 2500lb car can get 50MPG then my 5000lb truck would have to get 25MPG to beat it for ton/gal, but at just over 6000lbs I'd only need to get 20MPG or so which I think I can do if I add the mods I've been planning.
Can we do the gas measurement a different way? I need to replace my gas tank, right now if I fill it over 1/2 way it has a leak. I know that sounds bad, but on a truck with 30gallon tank I've just been putting 15 in it and ignoring it. Maybe we could pull the fuel line from the tank, drain, add 7 gal (more than enough) and drain again at the end? I guess it'd be a hassle since we'd have to measure the remaining fuel somehow.
Actually I guess that's too annoying, I can bring the wife's car instead and still have fun (Lexus ES300 that I think I can squeeze 35MPG @45MPH out of), I just really want to see what I can get the truck to do with the mods under closed conditions I really want to get above 20, currently I'm 18-19 and EPA is 14. If only the CRX or one of the motorcycles were together, maybe next year I'll have the '62 Yamaha together, I'm really curious what that lightweight 2 cycle 125cc can get MPG wise.

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Oh, mike, wanted to tell you. Cardboard and duct tape work ok, but as you found out cardboard and water don't mix. I wrap my cardboard in garbagebags taped tight or for small pieces just wrapped in duct tape. http://www.gassavers.org/garage/view/739
At one point I had just one openning the size of my hand or so. All that's removed for the summer though, not sure I'll risk putting it back on or not.

You can add the weight, but our racecar scales only go to 4000 or 5000 lbs. I guess you could go to a truck stop and use those scales and bring the receipt?
If my calculations are correct, a 6000 pound vehicle would need to get over 27 mpg to win the TMPG class at our last event and this event is going to be more competitive

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Maybe I'll add the weight to the Lexus instead then, if I got that up to 4,000lbs and still got 35MPG that'd be an honorable mention probably at least.
I've never used truck scale and don't know where the closest is anyway, plus don't want to deal with the gas tank.
