This run also gave me the opportunity to check the accuracy of my speedometer / odometer, using my GPS (which I hope is more accurate!)

Oh - Bill... You forgot to mention one of the luxury items your Met came with. It has four domed mirrors, so other cars can take self-portraits. Works best on cars beginning with 'M'.

Re: AMEC Economy Run II and Go-Kart Challenge

Hey all, I just was looking for other events and found this one, here are the results from June '08: http://www.eevc.info/21CAC_results.pdf
It's the 21st Century Automotive Challenge Competition. There's a bunch of categories, mainly focusing on diesel and hybrids. But their goal is to show what's available now that can reduce our oil dependance, so I'm sure some carberated 4cyls should count. Hobbit one the Prius category with 68.97MPG, so I guess his showing this Sunday was pretty representative. The overall top dog was an Insight that got 124.62MPG !!

I know we're all thinking that our 4 cyls just might beat out the Priuses but I don't think we can beat 100MPG.

Jetta TDI sets new Guinness world record for mileage - 58.82mpg while looping the lower 48 states in 3 weeks. Looks like they stayed overnight in Amsterdam NY between days 2 and 3, Sept 5-6th. Not suprising that the three diesels (all VW's!) averaged 66.5mph this weekend.

Official VW page announcing attempt

One of many press releases last week

And their own webpage

We can't beat the Prius' in low speed city mpg's that's for sure. But if we sped up the event this past Sunday to 2.5 hours, I think I might have had Hobbit. emoticon

I decided to sell it and have since picked up a 1st gen CRX with every bolt in front of the firewall removed (he was going to pull and swap the engine). But I still have to figure out the wiring harness and gazillion vacuum hoses and every other missing item under the hood and pick the right bolt from the zip lock bag labels 'bolts'. So it'll be a while and sadly it's an automatic, but hey it was $100 and the CVCC engine is really cool.

Hi Chris,
I was rereading the thread, and noticed you have a 1st gen CRX project car. If you ever decide to get rid of it, let me know.
If you do try to fix it, let me know also as I have quite a few spares for the 1st gen CRX and the 3rd gen Civic.

also if you need me to give up the one throphy i can, im happy with the carb one. but wasnt there a seperate trophy for hybrid vehicles?? even though they were my first throphies for driving, i felt a little bad having two.

As did I. The alt-fuel Hybrid/Diesel trophy was awarded to Hobbit and his Prius. The Miles per Gallon per Pound trophy was awarded to Bob and his New Beetle. I kept the High Miles per Dollar for my collection as it's a first for me.
That's the way it's been done in other shows and events in which I've participated: Best in Show is also, by default, the best in that particular class, but Best in Class went to the next closest in that class.

Mark I will keep that in mind. The fiance has been after me to no end to get rid of it. I really want to at least get it running to try out the grooves and because I love the size and smooth, hatchback style of the CRX and shortness of the 1st gen. The body is really solid and I'm really happy to have it sitting in my yard, but I guess I'm the only one :-).

Check the bottom of that page, there's pics of what I'm up against, that engine bay is mighty empty for an engine with 23,751 vacuum lines.

Thanks for the update Jonathan. We'll try to restructure the classes next time around.

Heck, in getting over 60 mpg out of a Datsun B210,

I should have left with a trophy too. Image
