Thank you for the formula Mark.
Bryon 96A
As **** pointed out, it was wrong. This should work better
=SUM(((A1/2000)*B1)/c1)
A1= car weight
B1= miles driven
C1= gallons of gas used.
Car weight in pounds divided by 2000 times miles driven divided by gallons consumed.
Thanks ****!

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I know I will not get the highest mileage per gallon, but I might do well in the Tons-mile per gallon class.
I made a calculator here.
My Avenger should get 53.62 tmpg although the mountains might screw me. Anyone else?

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I have been busy reading lots of great tips and info on the hypermiling websites [that I left links to a few posts ago]. Even before I knew any of the new driving techniques I do now, I regularly got 35.5 mpg with my Protege [which is EPA rated at 26-33 mpg]. If you remember the first post in this thread, my initial goal was to get 38 mpg. That is no longer the goal. With what I know now, there is certainly more on the table.
The only thing I have changed in the car so far is how I drive it. I am currently on my best tankful yet.
As you can see, I have driven 258.8 miles and still have more than a half of a tank left. This is with stop and go city traffic in Troy three days as week [with red lights impeeding my success rate]. The tank only holds 13.2 gallons. Indeed, 40+ mpg is in the bag. And I'm still learning.

Nice calculator Mark! So far, it appears that your Avenger will be outperforming my Protege, as the Ton-Miles Per Gallon number I got was 48.68 .
I've got to reach deeper [or add weight to my car] lol. If I added 250 lbs. we would be about a tie.

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Wonder what I can squeeze out of my little Mazda 626 if I really try?
I got 37.8 mpg on the highway driving 55mph on my way to and from the Valley last week...but I think I pissed off a few of my fellow drivers who wanted to go a bit faster
I will say one thing, driving 55 you really have to watch your mirrors!!!

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I thought it kind of intereting as I was coming home from the hillclimb in VT.
I got on 87 at Lake George, bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. I got in the right lane and was cruising at 65mph. You would never know that there was any kind of gas problem.
Two lanes of speeding SUV's and trucks. It was nice, I had the right lane all to myself mostly.

You were wasting fuel too Richard. You should have drafted one of those trucks.

By trucks, I meant pickups. I don't think there were any semi's on the road at that time.

Thanks Mike, we were looking for a list of participants. I am going to work this event and not drive because I will be driving about 260 miles on Sat. to Conn. and back.
