Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
No problem Dave. The Black Fly will be hard to beat for sure. There's a lot of testing, developement, and tricks in that car.
Next I am looking for suggestions for a place for a few of us to meet on Saturday night for dinner. A Google search has shown that Fonda is basically all fast food places. Johnstown has more choices, but most are still fast food joints. All I can come up with is the Holiday Inn in Johnstown, where we've had our two historic ice racing banquets. It is only 6.4 miles from Fonda and seems like our best bet. Can anyone from that area [or not] make a better suggestion? Have I overlooked any good restaurants in Johnstown?

Thanks Shannon. I like the Raindancer and it's only 11.8 miles from Fonda. Prices look good too.

Don't forget the Rainbow.
There are several good restaurants on 30A in Johnstown. Romana's , Apple B's, Friendlys,
A chinese place, a little farther north is the Travers.

Thanks Richard, some of these guys are pretty fussy about what they eat. Some are vegans as well. Me, I'll eat anything!

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
Lets hear what you guys are doing to your cars for this event.
No secrets here, [it's not racing why keep things a secret]?
I bought two 4'x8' sheets of 4 mil thick coroplast [sign making material] and will start building my belly pan. I've been reading Ecomodder threads every night and have decided [like they are] to go alterntorless. I bought a deep cycle marine battery and will fit a shorter belt to connect the crank damper to the water pump.
I've also disconnected the electric choke thermostat [which is a constant electrical draw] and will simply wire the choke open. Windows will be up all the way no matter how hot it is on August 23rd. I will have a cooler with wet towels in the car to put around my neck while driving with no radio [or any other electrical accessories] on. I also bought one of those wooden beaded seat covers to keep my back from sweating on the seat.
This is all in addition to the other mods I've done since last year like, taller final drive gears, narrower tires, moon disc caps, lowered suspension, and all synthetic fluids throughout.
OK, how about you guys?

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
That is a sweet looking Swift!
So... I purchased a moped conversion kit for the Ninja 250 and plan to attach some pedals for an extra 1/2 horsepower. Just kidding. I've contemplated using some spare 1/32" polycarbonate sheeting (very flexible) to mold to conform to the tail end of the bike. I've also given somewhat serious thoughts to stretching saran wrap over the lower part of the bike. For this event however, I'd like to get a baseline of what the bike can do without aero mods, so in short I'll be doing nothing except the gearing mod.
Also, some may find this obvious, but if you've been filling up your competition vehicle with regular gas (10% ethanol), you should run your tank down before the fill up with non ethanol gasoline to reduce the total amount of ethanol.

Absolutely. That's the beauty of starting the event at Fairway. You have to ask yourself, why would anyone run E10 if they had the choice not to? Luckily we have that choice. I will be running 100% pure aviation fuel. Av gas has to be certified pure for its intended use....and it smells real good too!

Be carefull of that Av Gas as it tends to run much hotter combustion temps and may have a tendacy to detonate.

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
I am pumping up the tires on my old VW Jetta Diesel and that’s about it. I am using my I pod for tunes and AC on downhill’s. The AC doesn't use any more fuel idling in neutral on a diesel I think.
Speaking of diesel I took a 400 mile one way trip to Canada this weekend with my truck (Dodge Cummings Diesel) The exact same route going and coming. In Canada at the end of the route I filled up with Canadian diesel (I think its old fashioned high sulfur diesel, you had a chice of types of diesel to buy)and I got considerably better fuel economy coming home then going out. Same speeds and I had a slightly heavier load on the way back too.
