Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
Hey All, This may be too late for any of you to use, but in desperation, I found a way to take the google maps route that Mike made for us, and convert it so that it went into my TomTom GPS. Below is the download link, if it doesn't work, you can get it from my website: http://www.danmandle.com/economyrun/ . Best of luck all!

Wow, Mike... So you're more loser than an apron-wearing busboy? That's pretty low.

Thanks!
Thanks again to Mike & co. for organizing and A.M.E.C. for hosting the event.
The fleet was diverse; the competition was both fierce and friendly; the route was a joy to drive and the scenery great; the classic cars were fantastic to see in action and up close afterwards; and fun was had by everyone I talked to.
Congrats to Chang on your amazing overall top result! Please contact me - darin (at) ecomodder dot com - I'd like to write a feature about your car for EcoModder's blog. In the pantheon of high efficiency Hondas, your performance further cements the CRX HF as a heavyweight... I mean lightweight contender. A first generation Insight would have had trouble matching your performance yesterday.
On a sad note: R.I.P. to my massive cardboard air dam. It served its purpose for the competition, but met its demise on the way home: I drove through two serious rainstorms and it eventually self destructed into a flapping mess of duct tape-coated mush!

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
Economy Run III was a huge success, and I want to thank all who participated. I would especially like to thank Mark Long and Dave Burnham who assisted me in administering the day's activities.
I'm sure that the results are the first thing everyone who couldn't attend is looking for, and we'll have them up as soon and we can. Mark Long volunteered his entire day [got up at 4:00 am to be there in time] and dragged along his 12V power converter, his laptop, and his color printer to provide results and color printouts for all attendees.
Let me just say that when the results are posted, you will be very surprised. No one ever thought that we would see triple digits for cars at this event. Remember earlier in this thread when I said the Ecomodder guys were going to mop the floors with us? Well that was a pretty accurate prediction. Also remember that last year's event average for all vehicles was 49.56 mpg. I thought that was pretty good. This year's average? How about 64.12 mpg!
Thankfully, there were several people taking pictures during the event and we look forward to viewing them once participants have had a chance to upload them. I was too busy to take many, but here are all four that I did take.
Darin Cosgrove, of Ecomodder.com drove his little Pontiac Firefly for 7 hours in from Canada. He was the last participant to top off after the run. Get this, [I'm going from memory now] he only used .98 gallons of fuel for the 104 mile run, and that wasn't good enough to win!
This was taken when we arrived at the picnic area after the event. I was trying to document the Historic cars in attendance, but in my haste forgot Bill Clark's beautiful Nash Metropolitan, which pulled in about a minute after I took this.
This was Will Meredith's 1998 Honda Civic EX. There were more aero modded cars this year than ever!
The red Saab 96 belongs to Jonathan Schaller. Jonathan filled the slot of a last minute cancellation and we're sure glad he was able to come out. Jonathan had such a good time that he joined A.M.E.C. after the event.
The biggest surprise was Chang Ho Kim's '89 Honda Civic HF [High Fuel] effiency model that had the wildest aero modded front end that anyone's ever seen. When the pics come out, you'll see what I mean. He was the overall mpg champ with 118.1 mpg with Nokian Hakka R low rolling resistance winter tires on it!!!!!

Darin,
Welcome to our forum and thanks for your positive feedback. We were honored to have you and Ben join us and elevate the level of competition at our event. This was clearly our most exciting and entertaining economy run event to date.

That's what I was thinking too, Tom. That's why it was so funny.

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
Hi Mike,
Thanks again for all your hard work putting together the event this past weekend...it was a great time and something I'd love to do again! Seeing all the great cars and meeting everyone made the trip and the route was very challenging (my Prius hasn't seen elevation like that in awhile)!
I posted alot of pics over at ecomodder.com but wasn't sure if you want me to post them here as well or if you want me to email them to you and you can pick and choose which ones to post. There's 20+ pics so I didn't want to clog up the thread without checking with you first.
Thanks again for a great event...congrats to you and AMEC!
Matt

Het Matt, welcome to our message board.
Thanks for the kudos on our event. Dave, Mark, and myself really appreciate it. It was a pleasure to have all of the ecomodders at our event. Great bunch indeed!
Yes please, your pics are welcome here any time. We love pics!

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
I'm not familiar with your photo posting tabs as it asks me for an image url rather than an insert function. I sent them to your email address as attachments so you can post them.
Thanks again!

Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
A big thank you to Mike and everyone at AMEC for putting on a fun event. It was great to meet everyone and see the diverse group of cars and mods. I really had a great time and learned a lot about fuel economy. Your websites and links have great information.
I wish I could have stayed later on Sunday at the picnic, but we still had to pack up the campsite and try to get home at a reasonable time. Next time I will know to take Monday off as well. BTW, great campsite, the family had a great time.
Thanks again.
