Re: AMEC Economy Run III August 23rd
News flash: Ben Jones of Ecomodder, who finished in third place in the Gas class [@ 82 mpg] has announced that he plans to raise his game for any future events.
Ben's not wasting any time either. He is removing the previously swapped in 1,493 cc Civic VX lean burn engine from his CRX for something even more efficient! What could that be right? Well, an Insight engine of course!
The Insight engine is a 70 hp, 1-liter, ECA series 3-cylinder unit providing lean burn operation with an air fuel ratio that can reach 25.8 to 1.

That’s really great to hear Mike, performance is performance, add a little car control as in driving on ice and you can have some serious fun. Practice the hyper mile driving on your way to the races and then blow it all on the track!

Very nicely done Darin and Ben,
I'm sure Ronny doesn't mind at all.
He always comes through with great pics. He seems to be the only one who took any during the run this year.

Re: AMEC Economy Run series
Hemmings is interested in doing an article on our last event and has requested some high resolution pictures. So I am working on that for them. One of the people I contacted was Bill Clark, who with his son Nathan, took lots of pics at Economy Run III.
I didn't realize it, but Bill let me know that both of his pristine Metropolitans were recently featured in Hemmings Classic car magazine. There is a link to the article HERE. Have a look. I didn't know that Bill is the Eastern United States technical advisor for the Metropolitan Owner's Club of North America, which has close to 6,000 members. No wonder he was able to coax 44.64 mpg out of his hardtop!

Re: AMEC Economy Run series
I just received a great picture cd put together by Nathan and Bill Clark from our event. Here is a sampling of some of the action from our event not seen before on the forums.
Here's the enthusiastic group of hypermilers.
Robert's AWD Subaru, 46 mpg!
Regular customers and passers by must have been wondering what was going on at Mayfield Mobil around noon on this day.
At the pre-event top offs at Fairway Oil in Fonda.
Carl Germain's 35,000 original mile '50 Studebaker Champion.
I'm not sure why Hobbit is pushing his Prius to the pumps, because he could have used his battery pack to do so right? Hobbit is a regular at most any fuel economy competition east of the rockies.
The B210's plexi glass grill blocks.
My belly pan with hot air slots cut into the rear for cooling. Perhaps the exhaust heat was responsible for the slight sag in the middle.
Not all A.M.E.C. memebers embrace fuel economy though. Club VP and rock crawler aficionado, Ivan Hinkle tests the park ranger's patience with his wife's Jeep at the club picnic after Economy Run III.

Re: AMEC Economy Run series
In the photo with Hobbit his battery was just about dead and he didn't want to have the gas engine start so he pushed it.
