Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
Thanks Mark. The results will be fun to look at.
I'm also glad to hear that the interest is there to hold another Economy Run. I agree, the fall leaf turning time of the year will be perfect.
I am proposing that we run the identicle route as last time. The benefits of this are clear:
1. We can directly compare our results from the past event to see how much we have improved.
2. No one has to create another event from scratch [thanks Bryon and Dave!] We can simply use the route sheets from last weekend's event.
3. The roads we used were excellent for the purpose, and fun too. Traffic was about zero.
The only thing I would change is that one designated person should be doing all of the filling and topping off of fuel tanks, not each individual driver. As we have learned from last week's event, there can be a big difference in how this is done. I say fill them right to the rim. There is no better way is there?
Lastly, is there anyone else out there who did not make last weekend's Economy Run that is interested in another chance?

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I like it Mike (the same economy run) thats a good idea. I even have extra copies of the route instructions.
When we started filling the fuel tanks I could see some room for error there especially on the last fill up if you squeazed the nozzel hard it would shut off your two clicks very easily. I like having one guy do it at both ends filled to the rim.
Dave
I filled my car to the rim both times and had Bryon verify that it was full.

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I would be interested in entering if you run this event again this year. You say the roads were pretty well empty for this last event, but if you hold one at peak fall season I would think the roads would not be so empty.
I think it would be fun to give it a try, not that I expect anything spectacular out of my 626, but still would be fun to try.

Re: AMEC Picnic and Economy run August 10th
I had a thought, if we start the "next" economy run at the same time about 9 AM we would be done before noon. We could then go down the road a few miles to the checkers out go kart track for an afternoon of kart racing. We could eat lunch there too! Both things (economy run and go karts) at these venues are not particularly weather dependent so both could be easily done if it rains etc.
That would be quite a test for us, first try and not use as much fuel as you can, then try and go as fast as possible all in the same day!
Mike let’s modify the heading on this thread and get rid of the picnic mention and date to keep people interested in doing it again. There is a lot of good stuff on this thread we wouldn’t want to loose it starting a new thread.

I agree completely Dave! I would like to suggest a date. How about Sunday, October 5th? Is Checkers Out open on Sundays?

Re: October Economy Run and Go-Kart Challenge!
Looking forward to the next one! By that time the 250cc fury will be fully broken in, and I'll have dropped the final drive from 3.21 to 2.78. Here's to 80 MPG...

That is great Ernie! Glad to hear you'll be back for more. I read in Cycle World magazine that your bike is rated for 60 mpg, so at 73 mpg [best overall from Last weekend's Economy Run] you are really doing a great job!
