Re: October Economy Run and Go-Kart Challenge!

Hi Mike, I have been trying to figure out if the 5th works for me and I think it will October is a busy month. We might as well go for it. I think the go Kart track is open almost every day maybe Bryon could set that up again for us. It will be easy a phone call and most of us already have our kart license etc. Looks like a fun day!

A couple of other thoughts/questions on the economy run.

Should we open it up to non AMEC members we could publicize it and maybe even get a newspaper article out of it that would be a good human interest story or nightly TV news story. It could be good publicity for the club.

Should we charge an entry fee to cover some trophies ($10?) or go without trophies? We scrambled a little bit last time getting trophies because we did not charge money. Bryon and I supplied all the paper, gas for pre running and set up. We won't have the expenses for set next time up since it is already to go (assuming the roads do get closed etc).

Should we hang out a carrot? Like if we charged $10 entry per car and got 20 cars we could give $50 to a car that got 65 or 70 MPG.

I don't want to make this thing all complicated but you know what it is like when your brain gets going on a project. We could make it into a good publicity thing or just keep it a nice little club event. I am cool either way I am already way to busy!

Hmmm, I like your thinking Dave. I have also been thinking about inviting like minded people to join us for this. The Ecomodder, Clean MPG, and other forums are full of people who'd love to do an Economy Run. Although they are spread out all over the country, there are surely a few local ones that would come out. Bruce Turk's Vintage Saab Club would draw out some entires as well. Might be fun to see some real ringers [besides Mark Long] join the mix too. Just kidding Mark! emoticon

I definately like the idea of an entry fee to cover costs. I don't think we should bother with prize money though. This is all for fun. A $10 entry fee would help cover the cost of trophies and reinburse you and Bryon for all of your gas, paper, inkjets, efforts, and time in creating the event in the first place.

Absolutely, we should charge a entry fee of 10 - 15 bucks. It would be nice if all participants received some sort of dash plaque.
Opening it up to other clubs or like minded message boards would be a great idea. I think it would be popular with the Kart race at the end. I could present it to the Poughkeepsie sports car club. They have some cool old cars. A few of them expressed interest in Ice Racing. Many of them have caged cars and trailers emoticon Is there a TV at Checkers? We could show some Ice Race Videos.
If there was some people coming from the south, it would be nice to meet up and caravan to the start.

I have the results from the first Run and hopefully I can post it this weekend.

I'm up for another economy run, fill all tanks to the rim, $10 entry fee, open for all drivers but have a limit on the number of cars, get rid of car pooling class and add Carburetor class. Have the awards at Checkers Out Kart track. I have to build better ramps with a longer approach for the scales maybe out of steel.

Bryon, would you be willing to call the Go kart track guy and set it up again? Permission for Fairway oil too.

I will call some of the newspapers and TV stations nearer to the event if everyone is good with it. It may help get more ice racers for the winter if we can get that mentioned. I will also rework any paper work needed and make sure we have enough to do the run.

Mike K and Mark L if you guys can handle a little bit of publicity so we can get some cars to sign up in advance that would be good.

I like all the classes Bryon mentioned and the $10 entry fee. That would be a good start for the next economy run we have plenty of time to get it all done.

We just need some trophys and that can wait a little bit yet too.

Count me in. I'm available to help in any way I can.
I have boxes of trophys in the attic. I would be glad to donate them.

I'll get the OK from the Go Kart track and Fairway oil. Maybe a small Bounty for 70mpg or better with a car, Mike says that some guys can do it.

Re: Economy Run and Go-Kart Challenge! October 5th

I was having issues with the computer I use to update the web pages. I finally was able to upload the Economy Run results. I did not link it to our results page. I will do that tonight.

Here is the link.
I want to add the people who received an award. As I remember it it was:

Ernie Yue: Best MPG overall
Dave Burnham : Best MPG Car
Mark Long: Best Tmpg
Mike Glock: Worst MPG

Am I missing anything?

Just a few question about the next event:
The date will be Oct 5th. Arrive at 8 and the first car off at 9.

How much is checkers? What time will our session be over?

How many cars are we allowing to participate?
