AlbanySaratogaSpeedway meets AMEC ice racing forwinter series

I know Tom brought this up at the meeting last night and I was in dismay to hear thatit was met with the usual nay sayers and excuses why attendees thought this couldn't be done, but as usual it can be done and the answers do not lie in the meeting.
I spoke to Bruce the owner of Albany Saratoga speedway twice about this oppurtunity. Once last year WHEN WE HAD NO PLACE TO RACE and last fridayat the track.
He IS interested and wants our President to call him and discuss the details and options.
I have already done the reasearch and figured out how to make ice plentaful and thick. I might also include the motorcycles and atvs maybe as additional income and a part of the show.
Claude pleass call me to dicuss.....

This is another real possibility for an additional race venue which did NOT exsist in the past.

Hi Darryl, There were a couple of people supposedly in the "know" at the meeting last night that said a winter series would be hard to do at AS from a community complaint stand point and the racing grandfather clause that they have with the town.
I think we made good plans last winter to make sure all our bases were covered for this winter with lakes farther north etc. Additionally I think most all of us like running the big lakes as opposed to small ovals. One big problem I see from the talk we had last night is we would have to prepare and maintain the track ourselves and that would become very difficult to do without an army of volunteers to run the water trucks etc. I know I am already committed to checking and plowing the regular lakes and would not be a volunteer for that. Is that something you could do?
We mostly had fun on the go karts last night and we didn’t shoot down the prospect of running anywhere that would have us. It was a really short business meeting though so we could race more.

Re: AlbanySaratogaSpeedway meets AMEC ice racing forwinter series

My issue with people in the know is thye don;t know crap unless you are Bruce or the owner of the operation. As you know whats real and what thought to be real is totally different. Its odd that the people in the know didn't speak directly to Bruce and confirm the know, they are only repeating what is though to be true not what is actually true.
That place has been sold more times then my place....its all bull**** until it something really happens.....
When the owner of CVRA tells me to have our President contact him well, thats what i know and all i care to assume as well. Until the boss' speak we realy dont; know what we know now do we?
grand father clause? is that some old man who drives a sleigh and flies from house to house in one sigle night right?....yeah, right. the onw thing i know is the town will not allow the operation to run past midnight....other then that I know of nothing. Selling or sold in two years was dismissed by Bruce himself as he is puting a ton of money into the grounds. perhaps he was considering selling it and I would agree then but now the pits are changed the bleachers are new and hes adding more the grounds are improving as we speak.

The track is a good point. Work it would be to maintain. But why would it be thought that it has to be an oval? or for that matter after LG oval if there no wheres else to race who cares...further more whatabout apectator admission dollars..... you all seem to forgo the things you all think are to much work or two hard to acheive. good thing you veiw some things different or fixing citreons might be to hard to make a good living at huh?

point is....whats hurts to ask and try? why dump the idea mearly because it is preceived as something that is unfounded?

Ya know..... whatever...

all of ya have a nice day...

forget i ever tried.....

I was just reporting the facts that happened last night Darryl, didn't mean to upset you. If you think we should race there then knock yourself out getting it done I been there and done that many times. I am happy to help if I can and will attend the races. I paid my dues with many days off not working for money last winter for AMEC trying to set up potential places to race for 2009. I am cool with every thing and hope you can be too where ever we race.

I think it would be great. Not for the full season though. We still like our lakes.
Those that attended the "Beaver Mug" race at Adirondack Speedway several years ago remember the enthusiastic crowd that attended.
Another thing, it would mean less travel.
DC, as you know, some members are negative thinkers and not the doers, happens in all orginizations.
I say, lets at least look into it.
I'll volunteer to drive the water truck.

HELLO,

Darryl, not sure why you think the idea of racing at A/S Speedway was SHOT DOWN. There was one gentleman there that felt the track has been sold. I spoke up because i have been told otherwise. The only other possible "problem" that was discussed was the fact that the town may not approve. There was also a little discussion about who would maintain the track. I agree with **** Vedder, i would love to race there...just not EVERY weekend. The best thing to do at this point is to get Bruce to the next AMEC meeting so the details could get worked out.

Now that I let my enthusiasm override the negative side. Some more thoughts. Can we realistically put 30+ SL cars on the track for a no contact race? Does AMEC stand to gain, other than a place to race,ie: spectator money. Since we would have to do all th plowing.
Since we would be running on private property what are the liability problems .
Would we be running under a co-op, rental or lease program ?
This is something that we should look into but there is much more involved than "yep, lets do it".
Claude, make the call and lets see where it takes us.

Re: AlbanySaratogaSpeedway meets AMEC ice racing forwinter series

Most of those answers will be received through the communication between the owner of CVRA and our one and only President Claude. So until they matter, they dont matter...

Thoughts for building surface:
First plan:
1 Wait for ground freeze
2 Coat track with 18" based of packed snow (from where for those that are thinking it, Ill bet the local malls and shops would love to get us there snow piles)
3 Pack snow with a heavy piece of machinery. (rental or club memebers?)
4 saturate with water heavily and allow to refreeze.
TADA we have an ice surface! Patch holes and ruts same way.

Second:
More work but install a 3-4" pvc pipe around entire track, drill holes in it and pump water through spraying track with water/water mist...
may be able to do this continuously if temps are right spray in day it freezes at night....repeat

Third:

old fashion way like previously posted somewhere with water truck and just drive around endlessly.

There still is plenty to worry about... be concerned with... wonder about...

however if the mind set is get it done, then we go until something blocks it permently.. kinda like Warners lake for those that remember...

The usage factor vs work load?? something to consider, but again if the lakes do what they have been doing for the last four or five years (remember we may have raced more in the last four or five years but it has been mostly on two lakes Caroga and Wells....if they faulter,,,,we sit home and get fat rather then race our friends for a sticker!!)

This will offer plenty more for you all to thiunk about and Im sure comment on.

it was nice too see some interest as opposed to what I originally received.

So the omen is now on the President to call. Bruce said to call and leave a message on the answering machine and he will call Claude back.

Ready? here's the number 518-587-0220

Go!
