Poughkeepsie Sports car club Rallycross November 16th 2008

** See end of thread for details **

The Poughkeepsie Sports car club will hold its first ever Rallycross at Grieg Farm in Upper Red Hook, NY, on October 19th. The area we are using is a mostly flat field with no rocks. This event should be relatively safe for almost any car.

Fee will be 35 bucks for SCCA member and 50 for nonmembers.

The SCCA RallyCross rulebook is here

Sections of the rule book you should read.
6.1 ELIGIBLE VEHICLES
6.2 VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION
6.3 VEHICLE/DRIVER SAFETY

The tech inspection does not classify your vehicle, you need to know which class you fit into.

Watch here and the www.psccny.com website for further details.

Timeline:
7:00-8:30 AM
    arrival, sign-in, walk in registration
7:30-8:45 AM

8:45 AM

~9:00 AM
    event start
noonish
    lunch break ~30 minutes

Participants will be required to work.

I'm giving it some consideration Mark. Gotta check with the family. That's the day after the VSCNA Fall drive and Malta's Halloween Havoc. Might be a very busy weekend! emoticon

Mark, do you think they'd let my Paseo run in this event?

Mike, I think the lack of windshield is a no no. Look at 6.2 of the SCCA Rallycross Rules.
That said, they might make allowances for cars which do not fit into the SCCA rules. One member has a tube frame buggy with a supercharged Jetta engine. This guy run track days at Pocono and run Autocross. He is also VERY interested in Ice Racing
 emoticon

Mike, do you have a window net ? I will see if I can get you in.

Maybe you should put in a windshield and run E class this winter

Thanks for checking Mark! I probably need to stay home and spend some time with the family anyway.

Mark,

How did the rallycross go?

Give us the skinny my man!

The Paseo wouldn't have made it anyway......

I have not seen the final results but about ~35 cars made the event. Of course, at least 20 of them were Imprezas.
I just swapped my CVCC engine for one out of a SI (fuel injected) car. I used an Canadian intake manifold (no CVCC in Canada) and my 32/26 progressive weber. I also used a SI trans (slightly lower final drive) with a welded diff. I never drove a welded front diff before.
No testing of the car with the new setup. I only drove the car onto the trailer.
What a difference! My car is much faster than before and the welded diff is just what the doctor order for Rallycross.! Can't wait to get on the ice emoticon
I came in first in 2wd Rally (only 2 cars in that class emoticon ) and I think I was 7th or 8th overall. I will see when the results come out.

My best time was in the 55 second range.

Chris Regan and Scott Beliveau for NER came down to act as safety stewards. Thanks to them! Also, the chair of the Philly Rallycross, I did not catch his name was there.
We are definitely going to run at least one more event this year. Most likely we will have a full program for 2009. And their is serious talk of runoffs between the North East Region, Philly and Poughkeepsie in the Poughkeepsie area emoticon
