Finding your spirit animal/animal guide

A spirit animal is an animal or mythilogical creature that presents itself to you and seems to guide or influence your life. You may have similiar attributes as the animal (protective, nurturing or fierce and angry) or the lessons from said animal influence your life. Some beliefs indicate that a spirit animal and an animal guide are different things. To me, they are the same- just different realms. A spirit animal is one you may not see- ever. An animal guide is one that you could see day to day or at least once in a while.

The easiest way to discover a spirit animal is just by looking around you. Is there an animal you've been drawn to your whole life? An animal that you find intriguing or important enough to have in your life- even if its a wild animal you could never own? That animal and its powers/attributes indicate it is a spirit animal or animal guide.

Another way is to pay attention to animals around you that seem to be making themselves known. A personal example: I have many animals in my life- from wolf to eagle to whale (many more). Several years ago, I noticed red-tail hawks hanging around. Turns out there's a nesting pair in my area. They sit on the telephone pole outside my house (and stare at my house) and they fly around our area searching for food. What makes this unusual is that I live in a town- not the country and not on the outskirts of town. I looked up red-tail hawks in my animal books (I have several) and it turns out they are linked to clairvoyance. So, the red-tail hawk made itself known to me.

There are also guided meditation exercises that can be done to discover your animal. I suggest finding an animal totem book from which to learn from. I have several books, but I highly recommend "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews. When I did a guided mediation, it showed me the wolf. The wolf has been a life-long animal in my life. I've only seen one in real life, from a great distance, in Denali National Park when I lived in Alaska. Other than that, I've never seen one up close. I have pictures around my house and always have.

My other animals came to me at different stages in my life. The wolf, eagle, bear, snake, and whale have been in my life forever. The lizard, frog, hawk, and raven are recent.

If you have any specific questions, please ask. :)

Let's see- pigs are good parents, smart, strong, industrious. Nothing to laugh at there.

I am fairly certain mine is the wolf. I have loved and been drawn to wolves and dogs my whole life. I have a deep respect for the wolf and an abiding interest in their lives and care for their well-being.
