Malcolm:

You had mentioned this to me a while ago and I was genuinely interested. However, that weekend is Troy's Homecoming so certainly a no-no for me. I guess I won't be inviting you to Homecoming then!

On a related note, I have just been looking at races and it looks like I will be making some trips to the Atlanta area a few times over the Fall and early Winter months.

Does anyone know much about the 13.1 Marathon Atlanta scheduled for October 4th? It alludes to prize money if you read the post race activities. I was just wondering what kind of event we could expect. Also, is the US 10k Classic on anyone's schedule? I heard the "elite" race is no more. Either way I think I may come and have fun on the flat, fast course.

Hope everyone is well!

I am very interested in the retreat. I may not be able to spend the whole weekend but as of now, count me in.

Can we please change the date of the retreat as our Men's Open Team has their ONE REQUIRED ATC volunteer event at the Haunted Hustle that Sunday (Oct 25th) at Boling Park.

That would be greatly appreciated!

-Jayaraj

PS.. I would love to go if we could plan it for the 2nd weekend in November or even possibly weekend before Club Nationals in December. Thanks Malcolm for organizing this!

Oh Right Y'all,

The date will be November 14-15th unless I have missed something. That date is 7 weeks from this past weekend (two weeks prior to the Half). The general plan is to meet up there on Saturday morning and get settled, before going for a steady run. The plan is for a long run on Sunday morning. Also, we just moved two basketball posts up there and we also have a ping pong table, badminton, soccer gear, darts board, etc.

I need to start getting committments from those interested. Would you guys be in favor off opening it up to the ladies team? Ideally, I would like to have 20 committments @ $20 each. This would pay for the facilities rental plus burgers, gatorade, a couple of special prizes, and the Tough as Nails award.

Post here if committed.

Cheers,

Malcolm

Re: Running Retreat in North GA Mountains?

All,

I sent out an email to those that I had email addresses for. The Retreat is on (November 13-15th) but I need committments by this weekend at the volunteer event. If interested, please bring cash or a check for $20 per person (family members are welcome).

I am hoping to keep the cost under $30 for the weekend (per person) but it will depend on how many committments I get. Here is a copy of the email:

Good Morning All,

The first ever ATC Competitive Team Annual Retreat will be held in Summerville, GA (90 mins from Marietta in the North GA Mountains) on November 13-15th. Team members and their families are welcome to come any part, or all of the weekend. The retreat is three weeks from this weekend. The general plan is to meet up there on Friday night or Saturday morning. We will run a workout on Saturday morning, an easy run in the afternoon (for those who want to) and a long team run on Sunday morning. Please note, these are not your momma’s trails…..there will be several decent hills. There is a trailhead immediately leading from the property that links to various trails including the Pinhoti trail. This trail goes to Alabama in one direction and towards the Benton Mackaye/ Appalachian Trail in the other. The property sleeps up to 40-50 people in the bunkhouse with 8 showers and a kitchen. It’s not fancy but it’s very cool. The beds are bunk beds so you need to bring a sleeping bag/covers and a pillow.

On the fun side, the ‘Camp’ has two basketball posts, a ping pong table, badminton, soccer gear, darts board, etc. I need to start getting commitments from those interested. There is a fire place and plenty of firewood. Ideally, I would like to have at least 20-30 commitments’ (including family members @ $20 each person, for the whole weekend)! This would pay for the facilities rental plus burgers, hot dogs, Gatorade, a couple of special prizes. If we get more people the cost will go down accordingly.

I will also be dusting off the ‘Tough as Nails’ award. For those that have not seen this trophy, it is a real badge of honor to receive. I have been hoarding it for a couple of years. I will be accepting nominations up to and through the weekend, with the official presentation to take place on Sunday, after the long run.

If committed, please bring a $20 deposit (per person) this weekend to the ATC Volunteer XC event @ Boling Park. If you cannot make it on Sunday, you can send it to me at the address listed below. I need email addresses for the following runners – Andrew Leonard, Corey Baumann, Kel Bond, Tom Kutter, Jose De La Pava, Aaron Totten-Lancaster, Dougie Coffed, Evan Glick, Kevin Cook, Sean Burris.

Here is a link to the Pinhoti Trail site - http://www.georgiapinhoti.org/. The Camp is located along Section 7 of the Pinhoti Trail, close to Sloppy Floyd State Park. When at the camp you will take the Blue Trail to the Green Trail, bear to the left and connect to the Pinhoti Trail. I recommend we stay in groups to avoid losing anyone. The site for the trail guide is - http://www.georgiapinhoti.org/docs/GPTA_TrailGuide.pdf

Please email/ call me with any questions.

Enjoy the trails,

Malcolm,

Guys,

I just sent an email to y'all. I need a committment for both the XC meet at Berry and the Retreat (both the same weekend). Please email me if you can/can't commit and also send me a check. I am trying to ascertain what we can afford to provide for the weekend.

Thanks,

Malcolm
