Re: Victorian members

With the good weather just on the horizon, thought it might be a good time to organize an xtrail forum day trip not too far out of Melbourne. The areas around Noojee and Neerim South have been unafected by the fires earlier in the year. Lets see if those interested have some spare time before christmas, the trip can be made to suit those interested from easy to medium.

We are up for a trip but with the silly season looming it might be best to plan for early next year. I can't believe that we already have bookings.... emoticon

Re: Victorian members

Hi Anthony and all,

With the Chrome exy touring the country as we get free time and having been to QLD before and got back home wet after 12 days of straight rain, we're looking forward to make our way to Melbourne this Xmas and New Year and will be visiting Phillip Island as well.

It'll be awesome to meet some of our VIC members while am there and have a forum outing.

Re: Victorian members

Hi Guys,
Geeeee!! i can't believe it we could actualy have a Victorian trip on the cards. I would be available for a day trip on December 30th or Jan 2nd. The other two days in between will be for new years planning and recovery.

I'm still thinking of The Neerim South / Latrobe State forest area which is around a 90 minute trip from the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne (ie. Ringwood area). i havn't been there before but have read up on some tracks on the 4x4 earth site. The Latrobe river is near there, so depending on conditions we may be up for a river crossing. Maps suggest a wide network of tracks in a relatively compact area. Most other areas close to Melbourne are still closed due to track damage and remaining debri from the fires in February.

Looking forward to meeting some keen xtrailers.

Hope we can make a go of this.

Regards,
           Anthony. emoticon emoticon

Re: Victorian members

I had a look at details of the Latrobe river crossing, the level was up to the front of the bonnet on the pajero in the video. If water levels are of a similar height then this would be too close to the air intake above the radiator. I would be reluctant to attempt this in my xtrail and probably only in a vehicle with a snorkle fitted.

We won't let the lack of a river crossing put us off, we can always drive there just for a look so there should be plenty of easy tracks for a great relaxed day in the bush. I have checked the maps and there are 3 camping spots near by for lunch and a photo shoot to choose from. Would it be a good idea to decide on a date to organize this event, as i said in my last post the 30th of December or 2nd of January would suit me. I think Jalal and Alan will also be in Victoria during this time so it seems like the best opportunity for them during these dates.

I think if we agree with this then a list can be started, let us know if this is ok.

Re: Victorian members

Hi guys,
Looks like we may not be able to decide on a date to suit all who wish to join in. Either date suits me so i will have to leave it up to you guys which way you want to go.

If Jalal was to stay in the Neerim area, then Warragul is only 20mins away on the Princes hwy, which would offer a caravan park and motels etc. You could head home North from here by cutting up through Warburton, Healesville, Yarra Glen, Yea and join up with the Hume hwy at Seymour. If a coastal route was on the cards then simply follow Princes hwy east.

Re: Victorian members

Alan,

Are you taking your exy to this trip or flying in? If you're driving then we could both meet-up with the guys on 2/1 and head back to Sydney on the 3rd of January together as well.

P.S. By the way guys, any tips on driving in Melbourne CBD with all those trams? LOL emoticon I have never driven there before.

Re: Victorian members

I did mention that I was driving "As there are some serious 4WD tracks near Mansfield we'll have the Navara with us, although perhaps I should take the exy and we can fit the rear bash plates test them and then write up the fitting guide together.....(perhaps not the holiday either of our spouses intended)" but you must have missed that which explains why there wasn't any response to the later part.....

I still haven't made my mind up (or been told that I have) regarding which vehicle we will be taking as we haven't finished planning what we will be doing on holiday.

As for the trams just keep out of the way and keep an eye out for the intersections where you do your right turn from the left lane.....
