Re: Posting photos

IMPORTANT:

Dear Members,

Effective immediately, hosting photos on ImageVenue (not ImageShack) is prohibited until further notice. Please only use ImageShack or PhotoBucket to host images and display them on our forum.

ImageVenue have decided to push porn adverts in their banners with any hosted image when you click on it and this directly violates our forum rules and is a major cause of concern to many. Especially when our website and forum is family oriented and the display of such images is not appropriate at all.

There are quite a few images on our forum that are hosted on ImageVenue and I personally use this host as it has the capability of accepting multiple image uploads at once, so please treat any image you're about to open with CAUTION and even more so, if you're opening any of these hosted images at your workplace or with family around.

I have sent an email to ImageVenue asking them if the display of porn images can be stopped, so until I get a reply, please refrain from using this photo host.

Thanks for your cooperation.

The Admin Team.

Re: Posting photos

Dear Members,

Since ImageShack decided to shove their advertisements down our throats and force us to view an empty page with every thumbnail we click on and hide the full size image code, I think we should all stop using ImageShack.

I have tried another service (apart from ImageVenue which also seems complicated with rubbish adverts), I found that PHOTO BUCKET was pretty good as it offers the following features:

1. No rubbish adverts
2. Your own photo album
3. Full size image codes
4. Thumbnail codes
5. Very easy to have your images organized in your profile.
6. Bulk uploading (more than one image at once)

Here is a guide on how to use PhotoBucket:

1. First, log-in to the PhotoBucket website and register.

2. click on "choose files" and navigate to the photos you want to share from your computer (you can select multiple images to be uploaded at once)

Image

3. The uploaded image confirmation page appears next where you have the option to add a a title and/or description to the image or simply skip this step if you want.

Image

4. Click on "Link Options" under the image OR "account options" next to your username (and click on "link options" from there)

Image

5. Un-select all of the settings that are there, except the thumbnail code box as shown below

Image

6. Go to your account settings again and scroll down to "Album Setting" and un-tick the box that says "Images Link Back to Album" This is VERY important!

Image

7. Click on "Show links in my albums" and then Click on "Save"

8. Now you will be seeing the thumbnail image code under each of the images you have uploaded, so all you need to do is copy it into your post on the forum without adding and/or removing anything from it.

Image

9. If you would like to share more than one photo at once with the rest of the forum, you can share it as a "slideshow" To do this click on the "slideshow" link at the top right corner.

Image

10. Look at the bottom right corner and you will see the slideshow link for sharing

Image

11. Copy the link and paste into your post on the forum, like this for example:

http://s366.photobucket.com/albums/oo106/xtrailadmin/?albumview=slideshow

Important: To have your slideshow images viewable by all, you must make your album set to "public". If you set it to "private" no one will be able to view the images because they'll be protected by a password of your choice. The default setting of your PhotoBucket account is set to "public" already, but you can change that under "account options" at the top right corner of the page.

Re: Posting photos

Gday Jalal,
I take it old post photos have to stay as they are? I was intending to remove all pics and delete my Imageshack profile in disgust, but this will obviously break the links to all pics in old posts, as we cant "edit in" the new links.

Cheers
Dave

Re: Posting photos

Yeah Dave, we must leave all of the old ImageShack photos we have on the forum as they are and don't delete the ImageShack account, because this will result in many dead images.

I have posted the work-around to view the full size photos if you do come across an imageshack thumbnail (see post above), but for all new images, it is best start using PhotoBucket.

You can however go back to your posts and edit the images that you have previously uploaded using ImageShack and have them changed to point to PhotoBucket.

For me, this option is out of question, as I have over 500 pages of photos with ImageShack across two accounts, so am gonna leave them as they are and start using PhotoBucket for the new images am gonna share on the forum.

Re: Posting photos

Yes Julie, that is very handy indeed.

Since PhotoBucket will now be used as our image hosting provider of choice, I have added a quick image uploader to the "post reply" window and you can directly log-in to your Photo Bucket account and upload images without leaving the forum emoticon

Image

Just type in your PhotoBucket username and password and then press on "browse" to upload photos

Image

Once you've done that, click on "zoom" under the uploaded image and copy the thumbnail code from the bottom right corner of the page that opens-up.
