Your Post Signatures

Hi Guys,

Seeing that the number of members is increasing (which is a very good thing) I thought it would be a good idea to do the following to help others better identify you and relate to your posts:

1. Add your name (not username) in your signature.

2. Your exy's year and model.

3. Add your personal web page link (if you have one) This is not essential. OR you can add your personal slogan emoticon

4. Add a pic of your ride emoticon

The way to have this done is the following:

A. Go to the "control panel" at the top of every forum page

Image

B. Scroll down to "Change Miscellaneous Settings"

Image

C. Change and/or update your signature

Image

To add a pic of your ride/exy to your signature, you will need to load it to ImageShack (details of how to do this can be found HERE )

You will then be able to copy the url of the location of your photo into your signature and the code to copy is called Direct

Then write the following in your signature to make a link to your photo:

Jalal (your name in this case) emoticon

[url=the direct link to your image which you have obtained above]THIS[../url] is my ride.

NOTE: Just remove the 2 dots that I put in[../url] as I could not show you how to write the code without it getting converted/activated.

This is it.

Let's make our signatures unified and fun emoticon

Re: Your AVATARS

Hi Guys,

To compliment the above signature feature, I have now increased the minimmum allowable size of the AVATAR (the small pic under your username) from 60x60 to 90width x 90height pixels.

I thought this would be a better size to show a bit more detail of the avatar which you will choose to show under your username.

The avatar setting can be adjusted from the control panel and hosting a pic on ImageShack (for example) then it's a matter of copying the URL.

Yep Dave. Looks cool, but you may want to put a better pic in your avatar, as this one is a bit fuzzy emoticon

Re: Your Post Signatures

Is there a limit to the image size that can be shown in your signature?

(I haven't gone through the process yet, so if it's already mentioned on the control panel pags, you can just call me an idiot for not checking before I posted this message!)

Re: Your Post Signatures

Rich,

That's a good question which we havn't discussed before.

I don't think so, however fairly large pics as signatures are going to make the threads unreadable and annoying.

May I suggest creating your image no more than 100 pixels high.

You can vary the width a bit; just remember a signature that is too wide will effectively stretch the width of the entire thread forcing all readers to have to scroll sideways.

A good width would be around 400 pixels max.

We cannot control this in the forum settings, but we will enforce it if we see signature pics any larger.

Also be aware that Runboard has a character limit of 240, so make sure your web-link to your signature (which will be hosted elsewhere) is under this value.

Re: Your Post Signatures

I was more referring to the file size, as this would become a problem if people started using images that were say over 100kb...

This latest one is 600x120 and under 32kb...

I could make it a smaller file size by saving at a lower quality jpeg... I now have two "links" in my sig (one to our webpage and one to the displayed image in the sig), so any other text I manage to squeeze in there is going to be minimal emoticon

Re: Your Post Signatures

Appears that Jalal's signature pic is only 4Kb with 238 pixel x 93 pixel resolution, so as long as we are not loading complicated animated .gif's I doubt the file sizes would get over 50Kb.

Even Noel has a 33Kb animated .gif with 300 x 75 pixel resolution.

Suggest Jalal PM'ing anyone who has over 100Kb and asking them to reduce size?
