Major Changes (Forum Structure Changed)

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd give you a heads-up that in the coming days we will be implementing a major forum structure change that will make navigating around our forum much easier and will give you guys much more freedom in posting new threads.

The structure changes involves creating forum headings and sub-forums.

Please stay tuned for these changes while we do our home-work and test them before implementing them here on our forum.

Re: Major Changes are Coming Soon

Question:

Is this going to be a problem with existing links contained within posts not working anymore~?

Re: Major Changes are Coming Soon

Hi Rich,

For some of them yes! but this will only be limited to links that are directing from one post to another within our forum, rather than links that have been posted to external sites/URLs'

It could be a little bit painful at the start, but since Runboard (as a whole) has already been through a major change that killed of our internal links and we had to do them from scratch, I can't see the impact of our change being any greater than that.

In the long run and looking ahead it'll be MUCH MUCH easier for everyone to navigate and find the right information where and when needed.

This idea has been in the back of my mind since Roger posted his suggesting about creating summaries for some of the super huge threads we have on our forum and have them placed somewhere easier to find and refer to.

I found the solution and we will be implementing it in due course.

If any of you guys have any suggestions and/or concerns, please let us hear them.

Below is just a quick and nasty example of how it will look (the forum colour theme will NOT change)

Re: Major Changes are Coming Soon

Dear Members,

Over the coming days you will start seeing new forum names/sections being created, these new forums are the first step in implementing the new structure and we will start moving topics between forums straight after that.

Please use existing forums where possible until we announce the completion of this upgrade.

We will explain everything in detail when the new structure is ready to be used.

We apologise in advance if this may cause any inconvenience to you but promise that it'll only be for a short while.

Finding the right topics and information will be much easier with the new structure and I am positive that you will like it.

Stage 1 Completed

Hi Guys,

We have finished stage 1 of our upgrade and all new forums have now been created and been made active and ready to be used.

I have also spread all topics that have been included in the Main Chat (now called General Discussion) forum into the appropriate forum sections based on topic and content.

You will notice that the dates are a bit out of wack, but this will self update (hopefully) after the next Runboard outage window.

We're now in the process of doing the same to the Questions & Answers forum and will be spreading out the topics contained there into different forums.

Thank you for your patience while we do this.

You can continue using the forum as per normal and this includes all new forums.

WOW emoticon

You guys have been busy.

I got NEW markers everywhere because of the moves.
I guess it would be better to Mark All Forums As Read and start from scratch ?

Yes Kev, that would be the best option.

Please note also that the site is currently being indexed by the search engine robots to pick-up all new forums and the new locations of each forum, so the site search may now be pointing to an expired thread until the indexing is complete.

Re: Major Changes are Coming Soon

Since everything is 'NEW' again, I just thought I would share with everyone how I weeded out the genuine new posts until I read them all this morning and then cleared the board.

On the front page I looked for forum threads which had a last post date later than when I was last on (yesterday midday) and viewed them.

After viewing all of these I then marked all forums as read from the main page and all is clear and uptodate again.

Simple but might not be obvious to everyone straight away.
