I wonder why they last for 100,000kms in the Boxer engine?

My Service agent told me that when I asked him about them and he said by the time you pay for 1 set of Iridiums and you pay for the equivalent number of sets of normal plugs to reach 100,000kms there isn't a great deal of difference in costs. He also told me that Iridiums on a std boxer is no great advantage and advised me against putting them in, on a Turbo engine apparently they do make a difference don't ask me how they are his words.

Re: battery replacement

Pete,

There are 2 types of Iridium plus and the IX one lasts for 60,000kms and it offers more power than the other standard Iridium plug (which actually lasts for 160,000kms).

Don't think that Nissan Japan would recommend against them for the xtrail and the dealers in Australia recommend them too.

Price-wise they're indeed more expensive than the standard NGK plugs, but you get what you way for and personally I like to have the best in my engine emoticon

I got mine from Auto Parts Warehouse in Garden Grove, CA (USA).

To get a better price, I ordered 2 sets.

With shipping, they cost me $7.25 each USD.

Don't think this is a heck of a lot more than the NGK Platinums....

Cheers

Re: battery replacement

So it happened to me today, you guessed it, flat battery just before leaving for work, how convenient. emoticon

I chose the easy option and went for a Century 68 Ultra Hi Performance battery with 3-year warranty which Brett chose as well.

Got mine from the Century Battery Distributor here in Cairns. RRP is $147.70 although I didn’t pay that. Lucky for employer discount I got mine for $106.50, emoticon So there appears to be a pretty hefty markup on batteries.

It's installed and I'm amazed at how much of a difference a new battery makes, the exy even seems to have more power now. emoticon

Re: battery replacement

Well, my previously chosen 'Century Ultra Hi Performance' battery dropped a cell in Wollongong, which the dealer informed me had been a common problem for my batch. Now they tell me.

After finally agreeing to a refund, I have since replaced it with the 'Exide Advantage', model number 55D23L, which is rated much higher at 600CCA and 115minutes of running time, as apposed to the Century at 480CCA and 105minuutes.

It is exactly the same dimensions as the Century and priced at a reasonable $125. Available from 4wd shops and also KMart.

Re: battery replacement

Having a general look around the Exy's engine bay recently and was querying whether or not the bonnet air intake should be removed before the battery?

My logic tells me the 2 plastic plugs which hold the intake to the frame should be levered off to remove it. Would we be able to re-use these plugs to fasten again (will they strip the notches) or re-drill with seperate screws?

Hopefully still got a while before this needs to be performed.
