Re: Head gasket blown

Sorry John, have not done this before on an Xtrail but on a different overhead camshaft engine without balancer shafts.

I just did some reasearch through the service manual for you looking for obvious areas where a problem might occur if not put back correctly.

I would assume the links should line up each time TDC is reached every fourth rotation as this is when #1 cylinder is back to its starting position in the engine cycle.

Re: Head gasket blown

Thanks for spending the time looking at this

I have had a think about it too.
So as the balancer chain was never moved on the crankshaft sprocker it can't be out.
I just have to ensure I have the timing and timing chain setup right.
I'm going to leave it for a few 100 KMs to see what happens on the relearn.
If it doesn't seem right I will have the timing cover off and do some more checking. I will be able to put in the o-ring I'm not sure about as well. Once Nissan finally get it in stock ...
(I waited 2 months to get the head bolts ! - should have gone for aftermarket)

So I'll update you in a while
Thanks

John

Re: Head gasket blown

Just thought I'd add a comment - the original poster is a mate - still has the XTrail, but it has used a reasonable quantity of oil ever since the head went.....
