Re: Engine problem
Indeed and the loss of power may not be so evident as your cylinder walls could have been damaged by flaking of the ceramic cat. converter.
I'd get the cat. converter checked to see if it has disintegrated. The end result if flaking and pitting is found on the internal cylinder walls unfortunately means complete engine replacement.

Re: Engine problem
You can get Darton sleeves for the QR25DE engine from the US with new piston rings but I am not sure how much the cost with mechanical labour would be cheaper than a replacement engine.

Re: Engine problem
last couple of days travelled just over 100k with towing jayco van 900kg for 40klm of that distance went from full to below add level on dipstick,
Have just got onto an wrecked exy motor 47000klm so befor motor installed will have it flushed i dont want the casting sand problem again, get them to check cat converter and screws on intake manifold re butterfly clips befor installation, and i hope that will take the worry out of driving an exy
would like to find out more about a cat converter to replace the standard model

The only way to get rid of the factory cat. converter is to have the whole exhaust manifold replaced, as the factory cat. converter is built into the manifold (refer to the Hi-Tech exhaust replacement thread for more details)

Re: Engine problem
The motor with 47k is a 2006 and will have the cat converter with it, does anyone know of any
problems that might arise from installing the later model, the original is 2001,i think i read somewhere in the forum that most or all the problems have been corrected in the 06 model motor

Re: Engine problem
The only problem I can envisage is ECU compatibility with the new engine, as the Series I ECU uses a different software to that of Series II and then there is wiring compatibility to worry about as well, as it's completely different between the 2 models.

Re: Engine problem
Hi Barney,
Checking the service manual it seems the main wiring differences are in connections between the various controllers (ecu, guages, tcm, abs).
For the Series 2 T30 all are by CAN system with sensors wired normally.
For the Series 1 T30 only the tcm/ecu interface wiring is in CAN with all the guages and abs by standard wiring along with the sensors.
As you should only be replacing the engine and transmission, provided both engines have the same sensors then I would expect there to be no problems, depending on wiring connectors to plug the sensors into the vehicle wiring looms.
I would advise a friendly chat with your local Nissan service manager and the "knowledgable" Xtrail technician to confirm.

Re: Engine problem
Either that or you can ask them to include the ECU with the purchaes of the motor.

Re: Engine problem
Thanks for the advice guys, have had the xy back for 2 days and runs great there was no problem with the electrics or the ecu,did notice that a sensor at the bottom of the cat not connected to anything but the one higher were the original one is has been connected so maybe the 06 model has 2 sensors.
They had a look at the original cat and could not find any damage to suggest that was the problem.
Has anyone had a look at what collects in the air filter box under the air filter i had to vacuum out a lot of fine rubbish plus the foam that surrounds the inlet that had broken up and sucked into the box i think the inlet should face in a different direction
Once again thanks for the input great forum

Re: Engine problem
Yes, the 2006 model has two O2 sensors, so the bottom is not required in your case as you only have one cat. converter.
