Re: Drive belt pulley tensioner

Had the vehicle inspected by another independant mechanic today, he has clarified that the drive belt tensioner is what is causing the rattling noise. This will be done next week when he has the part.

So far two independant mechanics have diagnosed this fault which looks as if it's the problem, with no charge so far. When Nissan looked at the car they denied this was at fault, they claim the noise couldn't be found hoping i would be sucked into throwing more money at them if it was booked in with them on another day.

Re: Drive belt pulley tensioner

I'm glad to report that the drive belt tensioner assembly has been replaced. As usual with these type of parts it was the bearing which had failed. With the part costing $173 and a little over half an hour the job was done for $220 including GST.

I'm sure glad this reliable mechanic looked after me, rather than being shuffled around like kids in a school yard with the dealer. emoticon

And the verdict ? Its all working sweet as just like a bought one ? Or ...
Also did the mechanics offer any sort of suggestion as to what may have caused it to fail ?

Re: Drive belt pulley tensioner

Had a short drive of the exy just to fill her up (wife usually drives it during the week) and found the engine running smoothly with no abnormal noises. The mechanic was a little surprised it had failed after 65k as it is driven conservatively with no towing of heavy loads or lead foot driving. Now and again items such as this can fail due to many factors, eg excessive heat, dirt, poorly lubricated or irregular loading of bearings.
