Re: new xhast finisher & earthing isuue?

Mate, can I please ask you to use the "search" button that can be found at the top right-hand corner of every page on the forum and you will find answers to nearly all of your questions.

For example, your question about "earthing" is covered in detail in the "Grounding" thread HERE

How did you come to the conclusion that the X-Trail has terrible earthing?

Am not sure I understand your question about the exhaust finisher?? You mentioned an exhaust finisher (which is usually a chrome or stainless steel tip that slots at the end of the exhaust pipe) and then you mentioned something about an effect on mileage, performance and firing which has no relation to an exhaust finisher.

Please expand on this question a bit more, so we can help answering it correctly.

Re: new xhast finisher & earthing isuue?

Hi qGm,

Getting shocked when you touch your exy is a build up of static electricity. I didn't know the x-trail suffered from this and your the first to mention it. Perhaps your best getting one of those straps that trail behind your x-trail which touches the ground which you see on some vehicles.

As for you comments about changing the firing, looks like your totally confusing everyone here, myself included. The firing order for the X-trail is a conventional 1-3-4-2, and this cannot be changed even if you replace the entire exhaust system.

I assume your asking what benefits are gained by making the exhaust system less restrictive?

We have already done that here in Australia quite recently. This would be a good thread to have a look at:

Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System

We don't have any proven results just yet, however in the next few months my x-trail which has the full exhaust upgrade will be getting a dyno test, as soon as the 4x4 dyno machine arrives in Cairns, emoticon

And on an admin side of things can I please ask you to stop using the shorthand notation style in your writing as your posts are pretty difficult to read and comprehend. The usage of the full spelling of words are heaps easier to read.

Cheers

hey i appologize for the short hand am just used to it.
i havent seen the straps you are talking about and trust me its really bad since now i have gotten used to opening the door and making sure i touch just the plastic part of the handle to push the door shut
and that thread answers my question about the exhaust system unfortunately again i cant get it done here thank you for the reply tc

Hi qGM,

This exhaust system from Hi-Tech Mufflers is available for delivery world-wide.

The system comes as a kit which any reputable muffler shop will easily be able to install for you. emoticon

As silly as it may sound, I also sometimes get zapped when I get out of the exy and I found out the reason emoticon

The type of socks am wearing emoticon It is true!

Nylon socks cause the build-up of static when you sit inside the car and that will get discharged when you leave the car and touch not only the body of the xtrail, but anything metal emoticon

Everytime I wear these bloody socks, I brace myself for some fireworks emoticon

The earthing straps Noel is talking about you would see widely in use by taxi drivers in Oman, have a look at the rear mud flaps and you will know what am talking about. I guess their passengers also complained about getting zapped.

It is to do with the clothes you wear - and is worse in higher humidity. I've not had a lot of success in the past with attaching one of the earth straps that drag on the ground - I just try to be more careful what clothes I buy, and touch something metallic with my knuckles when I get out of the car instead of the tips of the fingers.

That's correct Dave emoticon

It sounded funny when I said socks, but it is really what I have noticed too. This includes underwear and any piece of nylon clothing. hehehehehe
