I usually stop this by holding onto the metal door frame edge before I put my foot on the ground ans as I get out of the Xtrail.
Since my hand is touching metal I don't feel the static discharge.
I have also just fitted an earth strap hanging from the towbar to help the wife and kid from getting zapped and so far no-one has complained but it is early days yet and the weather is not such that I would get many zaps.

Re: new xhast finisher & earthing isuue? We sometimes get zapped by the dog while we are sitting in the car. I presume its because he is moving about the back seat looking out various windows & when his nose (usually) touches your arm we feel the zap.
