Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)
thats a pretty good option for extra clearance alright...expensive??
I might try that myself with Brett's excuse #9. But only if it is not too expensive

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)
Chris, can you provide any more details of muffler - rough price, brand (or is it a standard off-the-shelf item) or size details?

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)
Hi Rich,
the muffler size is 15.5" x 4.5" (stock is about 20" x 8"). The new section starts about the same point as the rear suspension arms. The muffler is mild steel with a stainless angled tip. I can't remember the brand but I believe it is standard size produced by several manufacturers, total cost $260.

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)
Hi Johnsey,
no I didn't get a price on a stainless cat back system. My objective was to gain clearance and keep the price down (as per earlier post in this thread). I am happy to PM the details of the firm who did this job if you would like to explore further options, but I just noticed you are in Melbourne.l
Best thing to do is to print a picture of my set up & take it to a muffler shop & see what they make of it, thats all I did.
Good Luck

Re: Exhaust System Upgrades (aftermarket)
In addition to what Chris has mentioned our forum has already a cat. back system in place that has been tested and proved to be a success. I wouldn't want our members go around copying a design that has been provided to them in good faith.
I'm not saying you should stop looking for alternatives. I am only saying that our forum is in partnership with Hi-Tech Mufflers who championed the design of the X-Trail Exhaust System and spent considerable time and effort making it suitable for the xtrail, so if you do to plan to copy it, please do so outside of this forum.
