Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System
I was thinking the other day if there'd be a cheaper way of getting the extractors/twins exhaust setup for those on a tight budget...
Jalal, because you're probably in regular contact with the boys @ HiTech, would you be able to investigate the feasibility of getting them done in mild steel?
From experience with previous cars (and if my memory serves me well, which usually it doesn't!), mild steel extractors is abit over half the cost of stainless steel ones - ie: my stainless extractors (or was it the exhaust?) for my Pulsar were $550 fitted (approx 5 years ago), and if I wanted them in mild steel it would've cost only $350.
I'm no expert in the field, but I'd assume they'd still be able to use the existing template no matter what material the final product was made out of.
I'm in no way implying that I'd go ahead with it - I was just looking at the price and seeing if we could get it lower for others where stainless steel might be abit out of their budget.
I think the disadvantages of mild steel is that it's usually thicker (anyone want to correct me, feel free!) and it's not going to last as long as stainless steel as it'll rust alot quicker (so you might get half the life of a stainless steel one - but isn't he standard exhaust and extractors mild steel anyway?).

Asked and answered Rich
Hi-Tech have been in this business since 1974 and they have always used stainless steel for all of their systems (including the exhaust piping) and that is the main reason why they're able to give you 10 Years Warranty on the twins set-up and 5 years warranty on the extractors. They don't believe in manufacturing the cheap stuff and I support them on that.
You wanna grab the good stuff and the stuff that you know works and gives proven results, go the Hi-Tech system, but of course there are other cheaper brands in the market in mild steel and you can grab these too. (sorry, this line sounded a bit like blurb coming from a salesman, but it is true according to what I have experienced myself)
At the end and it is the same with everything else, you get what you pay for.
It is not logical to go and ask Ferrari for example to go and manufacture a Moskvich. hehehe this is just an example and no offence to this car (if I can call it that) of course
Finally, If I was in the market for such an important upgrade, I would save-up and buy the best stuff I can get, which I know would satisfy me more and would last longer. Thats just my personal opinion.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System
Rich,
I went back and spoke to Hi-Tech and was told that there is an option to have ceramic cat. converters instead of stainless steel which will bring the price down but about $300 or so for the system.
Personally I wouldn't replace the factory ceramic cat with another. But it is an option.

You would be surprised how cheap their freight rates are. As an example, Noel's kit is gonna cost around $70 to send to Cairns.
Email your inquiry and the system you're interested in to mailto: sales@australianxtrail.com and we'll take it from there.
P.S. Noel's extractors have been ceramic coated, so he's gonna get the sexy exy stuff. Yummmm!
I will post pics this weekend.

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Extractors/Headers & Full Exhaust System
Hey Jalal,
Please make sure mine is sent in mint condition.
I don't want to see any "drool" on it when it arrives,
