Hi-Tech Full Exhaust System Questions
Hi Guys,
What sort of fuel economy change do you get?
Any other Pro's apart from power?
Any other Con's apart from cost?
I think I want one but need more input!!!

Not sure what you're looking for in this mod, personally, I wanted more power, a less restrictive exhaust system, getting rid of the bulky factory muffler and reducing (actually eliminating) any chances of the factory catalytic converter breaking down to pieces and the ceramics of it ingested into the engine (big problemos  )

It's not a Con if you carefully look at what you will be getting in terms of quality and guaranteed results

Hi all,
This is a exhaust question and putting it here saves opening another post.
Is there a way to tell if a catalytic converter is a high flow cat apart from the sales pitch or is it possible to look at the honeycomb for grid size. Also are all stainless steel core cats high flow

You need to look at the number of cells to determine the flow capability of the cat. converter.
A stainless steel cat. converter doesn't automatically mean it is high flow, the stainless steel helps to give better flow of gasses because it doesn't contract with heat and also removes the possibility of flaking when compared to ceramic cat. converters.
The most important aspect of choosing the right cat. converter is ensuring it complies with EPA and emission standards and this will be the heart of any exhaust system and will be the deciding point when it comes to registering and insuring it as "fully EPA compliant"

Ive just taken some temperature readings from the standard exhaust headers and would like to know the comparison from the original system and the ceramic Hi Tech system. The first is from the top of the heat sheild in the engine bay I found the right side to be the hottest 70deg c and the second reading from the manifold aiming the thermo gun from the right side under the heat sheild as you look at the engine I know you won't have to much trouble getting this reading without the heat sheild blocking you this temp was 335deg c and the last is facing up the exhaust tail pipe this was 58deg c. I hope that someone is able to do the temps for comparison

Dave,
I haven't gone to the trouble of scientifically measuring the temperature between the standard extractors and the one that have been ceramic coated, but I can tell you that I was running with extractors that didn't have ceramic coating and the engine bay was hot like an oven.
A good indication of the level of heat of the engine bay was the air-con pipe. It used to get so hot, that I'd burn my hand trying to touch it.
As soon as I ceramic coated the extractors, this heat dropped by more than half.
There are other heat reduction methods that could be cheaper than ceramic coating, but I found this to be the most effective method and it looks like a million bucks.

The reason I would like to know is to manufacture in a heat sheild to my design or leave open as the sheild seems to do a fantastic job in keeping things cool on the outside and keeps heat inside. The ceramic would give a lower reading as it would keep the heat in with no thermal transfer to the exterior I was just after that reading as there must be someone out there with a laser thermo gun

Hi Dave,
Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears you might be looking at creating your own design?
If you want to go that way I can't see the point of heat shields when ceramic coating does the same job and probably going to cost the same price which ever way you go.
The biggest downside of the heatsheilds is the visual ugliness and then making sure the shields is fastened securely.
That's my 2 cents worth.
p.s. I don't have a laser thermo gun either, so sorry I can't help you there.
