Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Cat. Back System (T31 X-TRAIL)

Hi Stephen,

The wheel to flywheel power and torque ratios are explained a bit in THIS thread. Basically when it means is that the quoted figures by Nissan are at the flywheel power and there is usually a loss of approx. 40% in the drive-train of a vehicle when this power is transferred to the wheels (i.e. transmission associated loss...etc). What we have experienced with the T31 diesel after doing the dyno on a stock standard car suggests that there is minimal loss of power due to transmission and drive-train losses and the "at the wheels" power is almost identical to the flywheel power, which is a great thing to have in any car.

a little off topic, but has anyone considered raising the turbos boost pressure?

a simple manual boost controller will do the trick, and would provide big gains with an upgraded exhaust... of course you'd need a tune too...

not sure of the stock engine's boost level, but id guess is about almost 10psi if it spins out 127kw in diesel form...

Hi Cam,

The turbo in the diesel is a variable vane type.
Not sure if the same manual turbo boost adjustments are still able to be done.

Hi Guys,

Reporting from the Hi-Tech factory in Bathurst.

The T31 diesel cat. back system is coming along perfectly fine.

I can report at this stage that the cat. back system for the diesel T31 will be available in 2 options (straight throufg system and twins) emoticon

Stay tuned for more updates.

P.S. We got here at 7am and had a perfect run with our xtrails. (T30 and T31) emoticon

I am reporting from the cold workshop floor, not like Jalal who is in the warm office, hahaha Just Kidding.

The first run that we did with the single resonator was impressive. We actually think it was quieter! The turbo seems to spin up quicker as well, and the low down torque is noticeable. The Twin is being fit now and ill take it for another spin and report back too. The original catback is quite heavy and bulky.

It was an early start and we got here just before the rain, which was a bonus. Sussed out the Glenbrook info centre too, ill post that in the other thread.

Time for another coffee i think.

Kev, as long as the turbo has an internal wastegate activated by the turbo's own boost pressure, you can put what's called a bleeder in that line. Basically that filters off some of the boost pressure in that line so the turbo actually needs to spool more pressure to open the wastegate.

so at stock well say the wastegate opens at 8psi, if you put a bleeder in that vents off 3psi, the turbo now needs to spool to 11psi to open the wastegate. varialbe vane and variable geometry technology is to do with the compressor side of the charger.

back on topic, with the T31 diesel, id strongly suggest an upgraded dump pipe.

Jalal/dronus,
Have any thoughts bin put into a turbo back system?
or just the cat back?

or was that what you were talking about with the O2 sensors such?
cos id imagine theyd (unfortunately) be in the dump pipe...

Yes mate, not possible without major mods and without impacting the ECU/sensors.

After testing driving it for the second time with the twins, I really look forward to the dyno results. That thing spins the wheels in 2nd gear and just shoots off like a rocket emoticon

Re: Hi-Tech X-Trail Cat. Back System (T31 X-TRAIL)

This morning we fit the single pipe and i took it for a run around Bathurst. Seeing that yesterday it was raining and i was tired i thought id give myself a second opinion.

Well, I wasnt disappointed. The power increase feels noticable, especially off the lights where you normally get that little lag.

The single pipe has been made with the "drooper" tip which sits just inline with the rear bumper, making it not really noticable from behind which is good.

The twins are just being finished off on the jig now and we should have them fitted shortly.

Jalalski has taken a heap of pictures.

Tommorow we are off to the dyno again to see what difference it has made.

Just got back from Bathurst - the twins definately make a difference in power going up and down the hills.

I reset my fuel usage meter when i left hitech and when i pulled in the driveway it is showing 5.7l/100km. I was doing the speed limit most of the way, lots of road works through there so there was a good mix of traffic conditions and speeds.

Im impressed.

I wonder how the auto would go with the extra power given the standard diesel is detuned in the auto version???
