Re: Spark Plugs Iridium LFR5AIX-11 1.1

Hi All

Fitted Iridium Plugs last week and after reading Jalals post have reset the ECU and noticed an immediate improvement. Towed the trailer to Devonport today and the Truck climbed hills in a higher gear than it has before. It also seems to be idling and running smoother than it did before. Have also just changed to Castrol Edge engine oil which could also be a contributing factor. Would recommend Iridium plugs to anyone considering them.

Re: Spark Plugs Iridium LFR5AIX-11 1.1

Hi all
I'm just wondering if any T31 owner has put a set of Iridium plugs in their Xy's yet.
My 40k service is just around the corner and am going to put a set in.
Is the LFR5AIX-11 1.1 compatible with T31's engine?

It will probably cost the same as genuine plugs that Nissan will put in anyway.
Anyone know what they are worth for the T31?

Tony,

The spark plugs on the T31 petrol are different to the T30, as such the iridiums we use won't fit the T31 petrol engine.

Alright now... I read this over twice now and here is the question....

you spend all this $ for high performance spark plugs.... don't you think you should be changing the spark plugs wires to complement the spark plugs?

If so... do you stick with NKG wire if you have NKG plugs... or do you mix based on what's available?

Inquiring minds wants to know.....

If they were standard 'old school' type, yeah change them.
The ones on the Xy have coils above the plug and are very different and look expensive to change.

The plug and coil assembly from Nissan costs 200 bucks....each emoticon I would hate to think what the wiring loom itself costs. Can nearly get an engine for the cost of 4 plugs. (wreckers always better!)
The irridium plugs provide longevity and a "better burn" than the stock plugs apparently, I dont think upgrading the wires will change anything, as the actual creation of the high voltage is done above each plug position, not in a distributor/ points set up.
I have read that the Hotwire cable replacements can actually lead to too much spark, and glazing or burning of the piston chamber.

Well it was worth the question asked.... so I have bought the plugs for $49 (for set of 4). Should get them by end of next week and install them puppies ASAP. emoticon

Ok... did more searching the net... Coil on Plugs... when do they need replacing... they obviously need replacing because NGK sells them.... at the 100,000km mark... longer??

Also NGK sells O2 sensors... I assume when the check engine light comes on. If the Xey anything like the other vehicles I have had of the years... the O2 sensor causes the check engine light to come on.

Mike,

The factory fitted plug coils don't need to be replaced at all, not even a 100,000kms service.

Yes, a faulty O2 sensor triggers a check engine light.

Not everything being sold by NGK as "spare parts" requires replacement in your car at any stage during the service interval if there is nothing wrong with them.
