Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I & II
Fitted a K & N Air Filter yesterday, changed from unleaded to premium fuel, did a ECU reset,
great improvement in motor response, better accelleration, appears to be better fuel economy,

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I & II
I just put a K&N Filter in my exy this afternoon and afterwards changed my headlight globes.
(Could not splash out on the IPF Fatboys so am trying some Narva plus 50's)
Anyway, back on topic,
I disconnected the negative battery terminal when i was changing the bulbs and following that decided to do an ECU reset. However, I found that the Trip computer had reset to zero and the clock was out, suggesting that the ECU had reset when I disconnected the battery (about 20 minutes)
Can I assume the ECU has reset based in the trip comuter returning to zero and the clock resetting??

Nope Paul, 20 mins is not enough to re-set the ECU by disconnecting the battery, it needs to be left disconnected overnight if you wanna do it this way. I assume you have reconnected the battery now, in which case, re-set the ECU by following this DIY Guide but only after you have driven with the K&N filter for 2 days at least.

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I & II
ah nuts, thought I had an easy ECU reset there.
Well I will wait a few days so. I am due to give it an oil and oil filter change so I will do it after that.
by the way, any tips on a easy way to get the fuses out?

There is a fuse removal tool (clip) which is attached to the fuse box cover under the steering wheel...do you have it?

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I & II
Is there an ECU pin readout diagram available? Id like to see if its the same or similar to my car's ECU, QR25 type.
I have found a more simple way to reset the ECU.
On the ECU for a 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, PIN# 121 Power Supply for ECM (Buck-up) Is what keeps the ECU's memory intact. Essentially, its the same as pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery, but the benefit of pulling the fuse or cutting this wire, you keep your radio settings and tripmeter settings. What I have done is spliced in a switch on this PIN and routed it into the cab. I dont have to pull fuses or disconnect the battery.
The ECU for the QR25 is notorious for fuel tune drift. If you have a fuel controller and a wideband, you tune your vehicle, and then drive it, the fuel tune tends to drift back towards stoich, since the ECU is programmed for N/A. And in Higher RPMS, it runs rich, but not as rich as you have tuned it because the ECU implements fuel trims. By removing this fuse, or cutting the "Buck-up" wire or putting an inline switch to the buck up wire, will reset the ECU's fuel trims.
If you look in your FSM under EC, "Engine Control System", then look for "ECM Harness Connector Terminal Layout", look up (Buck-up) under the Item column and thats your boy right there.
For me, its more useful to have the switch because I have to do it often because I have the Supercharger on there. I have to run rich!

Re: How to Reset/Reprogram your ECU - Series I & II
Kev,
We (xtrailers) don't re-set the ECU that often, as the performance mods are very limited to what the xtrail is capable of accepting, so the fuse pull-out method is less intrusive than cutting wires and installing this switch which is indeed the way to go for a highly modified car like yours which requires constant tuning.
In my case, I have fitted a piggy-back ECU that has these settings locked in nice and safe without the risk of the ECU shifting them.
