have a question would this ecu reader be able 2 read when the 4x4 system is over heating 2 tell you if it is the abs or just over heating

If the overheating problem sends an error code to the ECU when it happens, then the ECU reader will pick it up and it will be one of the error codes listed HERE

Has anyone ever looked at tools to interrogate the ECU like

http://www.autoenginuity.com//products-scantoolppc.html

The release notes http://www.autoenginuity.com/dloads/release_notes.txt

Indicate:

"*** Nissan
• Added text sensor reporting for all bit and mode sensors
• Added X-Trail model support
• Added support for Airbag Diagnostic Record translating the DTCs into full text descriptions
• Fixed Nissan Airbag DTCs not reporting with a certain DTC count size
• Fixed Nissan Idle Air Learn system test reporting failed to complete, yet the request would complete
• Fixed Nissan CAN ABS front wheel speed sensors being swap right and left"

In the mid term I am interested in a CarPC project that may include connection to the ECU for remote diagnostics. I have a programming background in remote telementry projects and different device protocols.

RodX.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

Hi Rod,

As you can see in this thread, there are available software and hardware which you can run from your laptop to read the ECU, but I am yet to find the software that would enable me to change the ECU maps and all that. This has been kept a tight secret by Nissan for over 7 years now and no one has managed to crack it just yet.

As for the CarPc project, you may want to check out a fully functional one now available for sale on our forum HERE

Please refer to an existing CarPc thread that is linked there.

Thanks for the heads up. Still getting my head around all this.

My old B series landcruiser was pretty primitive but did 500,000kms without missing a beat so if I get half that out of the exy Ill be pretty happy.

Well, there's a coincedence for ya.

I've just had an order placed to do signage on the vehicles of the Aust Distributor of these products

I don't know anything about the product or the company, but is this the same type of equipment you blokes are talking about ?
The local dist is on a link on top of the RH side bar.

http://www.motorscan.net/catalog/index.php?

THIS is the direct link to the Australian Distributor.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

It seems there has been a few issues with usb to serial converters,

I can shed some light on why...

Standard serial ports have the capability of 12 and 5vdc supply, though there are many standards.

usb can only supply 5vdc, and thus the converter is restircted to this as well.

The ELM devices just seem to need that extra voltage.

I'll get round to bridging the 12v lines from the obd port to supply the ELM one day, and if it works I'll post my workaround here.

In addition - www.pinouts.ru is an excelent resource if you get stuck for wiring.

Re: Nissan Consult & ECU Readers

any obd2 reader should give you the same readings in realtime. I've used obddiagnostics.com box for a while, then picked up a cipher, which can actually change the base timing and base idle on the 2002-2006 nissan vehicles.

Low cost Consult II, real time Gauges, data logging, ECU error code read/reset, EcU learn reset, idle speed set, Individual cylinder kill, Fuel cut, cold start simulator.

Works with all Nissans and offers OBDII as well.

I have one and it works, in fact I will be selling these into the Caribbean Area. It even works on JDM cars where ELM based OBD readers fail!

If u need a discount...Tell Jason, referenced by Ancel in Trinidad. He can 'refresh' the price a bit!

Have you tested it personally on your own xtrail?
