T31 Diesel Performance Chip
Hi Guys,
Was looking at ways to give the diesel T31 exy a bit more power and torque, especially the auto as it is missing-out on a bit of power and torque compared to the manual T31 diesel version.
I have come across the DPCHIP which seems to fit the bill perfectly in terms of proven power gains and better fuel consumption. Well, I say proven, based on the feedback available on this website and the dyno charts provided.
They also seem to have developed or using the power chip that was used for the Navara diesel for the T31 diesel exy, as it is listed on the same page HERE
Normally, I wouldn't advertise a business on our website, but since the diesel is pretty new to us, I thought it'll be good and a bit exciting to start exploring the performance modifications side of things and see what we come-up with.
I have no relation with this company at all, but will be prepared to help you guys out if any "formal" type of communication and contact will be required where I can approach the company using the forum name and influence.

Just be careful with chips - am learning quite a bit from the Triton forum in this regard.
1. You pretty much void warranty with them - always check with your dealer first.
2. Fuel consumption is NOT better. Everyone running with DPChips in the Triton forum are running up to 4L/100km more than I am with a stocker (they may also have a combination of larger tyres and heavy bull bars). It will come back to our exhaust mods with the Exy - intent is to improve power and fuel consumption - but with power comes heavy feet

Nath,
In regards to the 2 points you raised.
1. The chip is plug & play type which must be removed before taking the car for servicing while under warranty and they advertise that it can simply be unplugged for that purpose.
2. The fuel saving will NOT come in a form of fuel consumption reduction. If the car will consume exactly the same amount of fuel while having extra power, this means you're saving fuel. Just like it is the case with the piggy back ECU I fitted on my T30.

Is it possible that the power reduction on the auto is due to a restriction on the turbo. Either boost or inlet restriction?
When on the lookout for a new car the Peugeot 308 Diesel has an overboost function at full throttle that would increase the torque output from 320nm to 360nm for a short period to aid in circumstances such as overtaking.
Most turbo vehicles can handle a small boost increase without the need of a chip/reprogramming.

Guys,
One of the sales guys I spoke to today said you could put a bigger turbo in for speed racers like me. Don't know if it is a real thing or even possible, as I'm sure he could tell I know next to nothing about cars, I'm just the servo chick.

You could.. and you'd get more boost but you'd need to look at the effect that would have on other engine components. The DP chips can tune the existing turbo to be more efficient and powerful than how they are set in the factory.

Hi Meg,
I don't think I would go playing with or replacing the turbo on the diesel Xtrail as I thought it was a special variable vane type which aids in the increased torque & power at low revs.

My old man put one of the DPCHIP's into his new (08) D40 Navara. He reakons it helps especially when towing his mother-of-all-spaceship-caravan.
He has a scan gauge too so i guess i could find some metrics, or try and persuade him to let me borrow both to put in my T31 and see what it does.
