T30 Suspension Lift
Hi all
Did a trip up Double Island Point beach {Nth of Noosa} and cut across to Rainbow Beach via the Freshwater track. The X-Trail did it well but with 5 adults aboard and the sand track being quite chewed up and rutted the under body coped a few bumps from sticks and things. One such stick had to be extracted from the rear suspension!
So, can the more mechanical minded folk offer comment on what is an achievable height increase for the X-Trail? Could a height increase cause proplems to drivetrain or any other components?
Darryl

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi Darryl
I have made some enquiries about this also. My understanding is that you can get 20 - 40 mm lift by going to different springs.
You have to remember that your suspension arms are always going to be in the same place though, no matter how much lifting you do elsewhere. The only way around this is to fit much larger (illegal) diameter tyres.
You can also wind up the front torsion bar, but I have heard that this can be a bit of a trade-off in wheel travel, and it may cause problems with alignments.
I have found TS 4WD at Maroochydore to be quite helpful.
I have done Teewah / DI & Rainbow Beach a number of times now, but I haven't done the cross-over via Freshwater or the Leisha Track yet.

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi all
So Darryl what height increase are you after, what do you think is the min necessary for that track or others?

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi guys
I think a 50mm increase would be enough. I am also thinking of the cost vs gain factor and would probably want at least that to justify the expenditure. Is that sort of increase possible? What sort of impact does this have on angles to CB joints wheel alignments shocky travel for example.
Like Mark I also have enquired about heavy duty springs and have found Kings, Iron Man and TJM all claiming about 30mm height increase with their products. For me I don't think this is enough to warrant the change.
My local Opposite Lock store has said that 'Tuff Dog' is currently developing a complete suspension package for the X-Trail and is about 6 months away.
Probably should chill and see what they produce!
Darryl
Mark,
Where is the Leisha Track?

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi all checked about lift kit at pedders.Answer is 30mm due to the front struts not having enough travel past this point and will bottom out ,and also drive shaft alignment.Price about $400.00 for springs plus labour.Pedders say this works well and the original struts are used as at the moment there is no longer travel struts on the market.DUXBAC

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi Darryl,
Just going over this old message and I realised you had a question about where the Leisha Track is at Teewah / Double Island Point. It is just a bit after the old Cherry Venture wreck, and is a track from Teewah Beach over to Rainbow Beach. It is signposted so you shouldn't miss it.
We were over on Teewah on Sunday but haven't done the full length trip to DI for a while, we usually just find a suitable spot to stop about 10 minutes north of the beach entry cuttings.

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi Jalal
I had the Pedders Red Bull Springs fitted by one of our local dealers the first Xtrail they had done. It took them 6 hours including a wheel alignment after all the springs had been fitted. Total Cost $685.95
It has made a big difference to the Vehicles performance off-road. It is suprising what 30mm extra clearance can do, and also with the larger dia wire the vehicle does not sag when loaded up with camping gear & towing the caravan.
My Last 4wd a Landrover Discovery was kitted out with every extra you could think off as I used to run a 4wd tagalong adventure company (a second buisiness) but I have slowed down on that as my main company has been too busy.
I have looked at the Aux fuel tanks and there are not many on the market. the best one I have found is by Long Range Automotive and is 50L in size and fits at the rear next to a modified exhaust It costs around $1067 Supply or $1452 fitted.
I have found under body protection plates on Japanese web sites and I think it would be easy to get a local fabricator to make some.

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi Swagman,
I think the price you paid is little bit more expensive than what Duxbac was quoted by Pedders (see above post), but I guess they've charged you for the 6 hours labour, which is a huge effort in itself.
The 30mm lift would make a big difference for sure.
Was THIS the Japanese web site you saw about the bash plate and other goodies?

Re: Suspension Lift
Hi Jalal
Yes that was the web site I saw the xtrail parts.
The price to fit the Springs was higher than I was origially quoted
Front Springs $189 a pair part no 7892
Rear Springs $189 a pair part no 7893
Labour $200 ($50 per Spring)
Total $578
The extra costs were encountered as this was the first Xtrail they had worked on (rear springs were harder to fit than expected and I also asked for a wheel alignment & underbody check as I do a lot of offroad exploring.
Pedders head office recomended that fitting costs would range from $50 to $80 per spring.
Being in the country also plays a part in prices as the local workshops dont have the volume of customers to offset first time costs, I bet the next customer got a cheaper price...lol

Re: Suspension Lift
Fair enough Swagman. I think the price will come down more once they do more xtrails as you said. I'll wait until then
