Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
Thanks for that Shawn. Good to know this feature if the light comes on in the middle of nowhere.
Turns out it is the camshaft sensor (0340). Or a connection to it. Will have a go at it tomorrow when it is cool enough to be outside.
Update:
Fiddling with the connectors did not fix it so I had to give it to the dealer. Turned out to be the sensor. Unfortunately they only sell the sensor in a pair with the crank shaft sensor. $96 for the parts and $99 for the labour (tracking down the problem and then fitting the sensors).

Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
I'm about to have fun this weekend doing a disc/pad change. Noticed the front pads are only 2-3mm from metal to metal! With the prices on page 7 of this thread, are the prices for each disc or a pair? I paid $160 for a pair of RDA slotted discs...just thinking is that a good price? Anyways, I'll post up what I found after the installation.
Has anyone here ever changed calipers/discs to upgrade to a larger size? With my 240Z, its possible to fit Mustang discs / R32 GTR calipers for a huge improvement in braking performance..

Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
Just had the 100,000km service and told the rotors will only last to the next 110,000km service and so too the pads. Both front and rear are past their wear limit for machining, so it is a full set rotors+pads x 4 all round for me soon.
Definitely thinking of the DBA slotted rotors and Bendix 4WD pads.
Someone mentioned to me that they thought slotted rotors were not good for off-roading as small stones could get caught by the slots and gouge the pads. To me the slots don't look big enough. I would like to know anyone's opinions on this.

Slotted rotors are fine for 4wd applications. Slotted and cross drilled are not - they (supposedly) are prone to cracking between the drilled holes if subjected to thermal shock - say hot from use, then get exposed to cold water - deep puddle or creek crossing.
Never known anyone to use them to experience this first hand, but a few mates have run DBA slotted on their Patrol wagons with a variety of brake pads.

Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
Thanks Ian.
Knowing that bigger 4WDs have fitted slotted rotors without any problems should mean they have had rougher treatment than mine will get.

Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
I just had a look at my front brakes and notice an interesting scoring on the trailing edge of the slots. These discs are a bit over 15 000km old. Remembering that they have seen over 6000km of Central Australian dirt I am wondering whether grit gets in the slot and then when I brake, the pads grab the grit and drag it onto the disc. You will notice that the scoring starts at the slot and goes (to the right) about 1-2 cm before fading out. This scoring is on both front discs (the rear are not scored but they are not slotted) and at each slot. The photo is of the left hand side disc.

Re: Brake Upgrades & Brake Dust
I was wondering if you guys can give me part numbers on the EBC brakes. I can buy EBC in Canada but X-trail don't show up on their list but they do have part numbers.
Also can do the same for the Rotors.
Thanks

Front Brake Pads: DP61247
Rear Brake Pads: DP61666
Not sure which rotors are you after, the part numbers for the slotted rotors which are made in Australia are in this thread and I doubt that you can get them in Canada.
