Re: Suspension Commonality with other Nissans

cant be bothered reading through dozens of pages in the strut brace thread, but have you noticed any increase in understeer?

cos i think most of the suspension tuning that needs to be done in the exys, is to do with reducing understeer and body roll.

Well mate, you should read the info. there because that is exactly what it does. Eliminates under-steer and body roll.

I can turn onto a side street doing 80kms/hour and the exy just turns like a Porsche without going anywhere.

In any case, I do not wish to go over the strut bar here, as this has already been discussed in another thread.

Re: Suspension Commonality with other Nissans

ok i think i will go over it all.
my focus is on this turbo build and getting it as reliable as possible...

but anyway, kev, with aftermarket coil-overs so cheap (HotBits ones only AUD$1300) why don't you go for them?

Re: Suspension Commonality with other Nissans

just lately pedders have brought out a large range of coil overs and replacement strut tops with fully adjustable camber/caster. i wonder if any of them suit the T30? also alot of the cheaper stuff doesnt have brackets to hold brake lines and wheel speed sensor wiring. kev wants it for off and on road, best of both worlds but i want them so the low can get lower :P (without busting a strut or being completely bump-stopped)

PS. the xtrail was a dog though round abouts til i got the strut brace emoticon

Quote I just got from AXT Turbo in Melbourne who fits and supplies Hotbits parts was $2750 and $250 fitting.

Still waiting on a price from the Sydney place which installs the Daiyama ones.

considered installing them yourself?

what about buying them direct from the HotBits manufacturer in malaysia? might cost a bit to ship, but would be heaps cheaper in the long run, their website says $1300AUD

Re: Suspension Commonality with other Nissans

I'll look into that Cam but since Hotbits have a list of worldwide distributors on their website I'm not too confident they will sell and ship to me from malaysia.

Got another reply back from the Melbourne place on the Hotbits coilovers which said they are made primarily for lowing upto 100mm, but they could make them to suit my requirements. I think I will have to do BOTH coilovers AND strut spacers so that the spacers give me the 50mm lift and the coilovers will then drop 100mm from that to give me a 50mm lowering effect.

Taylor, when you fitted your lowered springs was there much change in the camber or anything else which required adjustment ?
I ask mainly to get an understanding on what difficulties I might have with continually adjusting ride height with the coilovers between top and bottom.

Re: Suspension Commonality with other Nissans

hey kev, well after i put the springs in, i left it a week and then did a wheel alignment on it at work. it was still close to specs but i didnt check what it was before i did the springs so yeh. there is a little bit more negative camber but nothing to write home about, (i actually wanted a bit more negative camber because of how my tyres were wearing and there being no adjustments for it).

i think youll find if you get an alignment at one height, the toe on the front will change because the rack is attached to the car body while the tie rod ends are attached to the hubs so when you lift it/lower it, the rack ends will push the hubs in/out when going up/down, therefor changing toe. if you measure the sills to ground and get it close to what it was set at after you lift/lower im sure it'll be very close anyway
