T31 clutch /brake dust

hi all,

For the t31 dci 6sp maual owners.

I get great wiffs of brake /clutch dust when slowing down after driving for 30min on cruise control with no brake application when hitting traffic around the 10kms then goes I would interested to hear feedback from other manual owners.
I have 6600kliks on it and it has done it intermittantly since new.

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

I doubt it would be something is simple as accidentally leaving the hand-brake on emoticon

I pulled up behind a young female P-plater a few weeks ago and saw heaps of smoke pouring out the back wheels. The smoke wasn't there when I'd been following her, as it was dispersed from the motion of the car. I jumped out to tell her, and sure enough, hand-brake handle was sticking up between the front seats. I think she was mildly embarassed when I told her she'd left her hand-brake on. I hate to wonder how far she'd driven!

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

I don't really get any smell of brake or clutch dust at all and I've got nearly 40k on the clock. Come to think of it, there is no dust on my rims at all.

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

No definitey not hand brake
it seems to be related to another problem the nissan dealer is trying to work out
this is a manual t31 tci diesel.
The problem is that when you apply the brakes stop and take off the we get like a wobbly that is transmaitted through the engine floor and drivetrain in 2wd with accelerating not excessive. this wobble is with the clutch fully out and can extend into 2nd gear
I am not a hard driver I get 6.6 to 6.8 every tank including part city.
this problem is like the brakes are coming on and off.

the computer says the sensors are ok.
hill holder seems to be going off.
computer has the last firmware.

Has anyone else experienced this, nissan is at dead stop without another one to check against.

I would be leaving the car at Nissan for them to find the problem and would be demanding that they give you a loan car untill they do.
Certainly if left this could be the cause of an accident.

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust wobble

thanks cooch t31

It has been at nissan for 6 days no change.

I was hoping that one of the diesel man t31 TL drivers has experienced this.

cooch t31 does your exy have a hill holder?

I think it might only be on the TL ?
nissan doesn't seem to have roving trouble shooting specialist guys anymore seems like it is left up to the dealers now.

They cant put it on the hoist and run it as the fail safe on the computer kicks in
and shuts it down.

Yes it does, Hill assist comes standard across the range.

No - no issues there. I do find the hill holder is intermittent in function at times - ie on my driveway which slopes up from the house to the road, sometimes it engages, other times it doesn't.

I'd have to play with mine, but one idea, does turning the Stability COntroll off have any effect on your problem? It shouldn't......

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

From your description it sounds like there is some sort of imbalance issue. Like Tony's my manual diesel is close on 40000 and runs extremely smoothly. Do you feel any vibration when cruising or is this just occurring on acceleration. Has the smell disappeared?
