Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

I have a DCI manual and have had no problems. Although I dont use the cruise control to often as it more city driving than highway.

Would like to know the cause though

nissan doesn't seem to have roving trouble shooting specialist guys anymore seems like it is left up to the dealers now.

They cant put it on the hoist and run it as the fail safe on the computer kicks in
and shuts it down. emoticon

My TL has had the "nasty" smell after a run home more than once - I intend to query it at/after the 10K service on my TL manual diesel.

And if we are relying on the dealership mechanics, God help us, no-one else will............

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

Hi Ian
Mine too has been experiencing clutch smells after only short drives.
The clutch is on the way out, I know, its going in to Nissan on Tuesday for them to find out where the smell is coming from.
I have a gut feeling they are going to tell me its driver abuse , the RPM stays firm and there is absolutely no slipping, even under load.

They tell me it OK to drive if there is no slipping or if the revs are stable, so I have been, nearly 1000kms.
When they pull the box out it is going to look like abuse due to scoring on the pressure plate from the extra driving.
This is all because they claim they have been booked for a week and a half and don't have a chance to look at it earlier.

Other than the smell the car runs perfectly.
Its not a good sign after 43000 clicks.

It has been at nissan for 6 days no change.

I was hoping that one of the diesel man t31 TL drivers has experienced this.

They cant put it on the hoist and run it as the fail safe on the computer kicks in
and shuts it down.

What has happened at Nissan, I am hoping you got your car back and all is well.
Please let us know as I think I'll have a similar situation.
Thanks

posticon Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

hi ongoing,

I now have 12k on the clock the wobble on take off is still there it is like a torque loading on the subframe not to much power and a little bit more than a gentle take off the car is more likely to exibit in front wheel drive.a load in the back amplifies wobble.
it is also more likely to happen when the car is hot.
The front cv's on the exy are on a fairly steep angle standard new and when the right torque is applied to the drive shafts, they seem to wobble the subrame on its rubbers transmitting it through the floor.
at this stage nissan and the dealer says it is in specification although they know it exibits this problem and have been able to recreate it.
the best way to recreate it is to stop start apply brakes hard so hill holder engages and take off. ( i would love to take the bonnet off and see what is happening)

The burn brake / clutch smell is still there after a long run it less frequent .(no answer from nissan on this)
I have found the rear brakes are very hot on stopping yet no handbrake not applied, fronts are cool?
The short rubber under the bonnet doesn't seal the engine bay from air vent intake as is such on most cars so any engine smell is transmitted very easily through the car.
I notice a slight slowing at times whilst driving on vibrating road surface or wind driving on the side of the car it mght be the esp kicking in and braking the car(hence brake smell)
when stopping the smell moves forward and when the thermo fan kicks in pushes the smell up the back of the engine up to the air vent intakes.
I have found by slowing in neutral and engaging first caused the hill holder to work very well in traffic and cause clutch drag, Now I just leave in in gear and gentle brake application on full stop doesn't apply the hill holder on stop/ start traffic.
love to hear more feed back on this.

Note!!!! the ESP saved me from an accident only recently so I love it , a car pulled straight out in front of me in avoiding a crash two four wheel drifts violent turns both ways and the esp straightened me on both turns it should have been a lose and off the road.

Re: T31 clutch /brake dust

Hi there,

I've got over 40,000kms on my diesel and I can't say I have experienced the problems you are talking about either.
Very rarely i can smell a burning smell after I've stopped, but i have put it down to the particulate filter doing its burn off procedure.

Interesting theory - it could well be the esp as occasionally I take a corner hard on the way home which upsets the ESP, then I am in the driveway about 1km later.... and in the middle there s a steep hill where hill hold may activate at times if I have to stop....
