CV Boot under warranty?
At 50K service the mechanic advised me that a CV boot was cracked. As I have an outstanding recall notice I decided to book into "hands-up" Nissan at Ryde to get both jobs done.
What are my chances of getting the boot done under warranty? What about the shaft or bearing if required as a result of the boot failing?
If not - anyone got an idea of expected costs?

What year is your Exy? If you are still under warranty I would hope that the boots would be covered... but if they aren't they shouldn't be too expensive.
These generally don't go easily. They generally only crack when they have become hard from aging... or are constantly subject to tough conditions (i.e. a lot of offroad use).
In my time I've only known one person in my family to have done the CV boots and that was on a 20yr old car.
CV joints can become damaged if the boots aren't seen to quickly... but if it is just a crack you might be ok. You need to be more worried about large tears or rips that allow grease to escape.
You would know if the joints were damaged if you hear a knocking or clicking sound when turning... CV joints are very expensive

CV Boots are not covered by warranty as they would usually tear and crack from either age (which is not the case here) OR being clipped with a sharp object in an off-road situation (which more than likely what happened in your case).
I don't think Nissan would replace these under warranty, but as Nath mentioned, they're very cheap (approx. $80 max. I would think)
If the damage is recent, you don't need to worry abut further complications to the CV joints and the like, as the grease would still be there.

ive had to replace cv boots in one of my previous cars,
my advice is to fix it asap because if you dont you will have to replace the cv joint wich can be very expencive ( as naff said )

Happy to say that I got it replaced under warranty. N/S inner boot.
Ryde Nissan did it, no questions asked - so I am happy.

That is good news indeed.
Do you know if they replaced just the CV boot or the whole drive shaft?
DoctorX just called me and advised that he had exactly the same problem (for the 2nd time around now)
It was covered by warranty as well, but Nissan told him that it is easier to replace the whole drive shaft than just changing the CV boot, which sounded a bit strange to me.

Just the boot. Asked about the shaft etc - they said it's fine.

G'day all,
I think this is the right place for this question, as I didn't really want to start a new thread.
I am having some light vibration coming through the steering and can hear/feel a very low whir, if that makes sense. I'm suspecting that it might be CV boot/joint related, given that I got a lift put on a few months ago.
I've had a quick look at the CV boots, but being a bit of a gumby I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly. The boot is covered by a black concertina like casing. I'm assuming that this isn't the boot. Can this be removed to inspect the boot/joint more closely? Nothing appears amiss from what I can see.
