The guy that I spoke to when I dropped my X-Trail off for it's 10,000k service @ Rockdale Nissan a couple of months ago asked me if I wanted a wheel rotation. I agreed to it, but I doubt it was done, and I also didn't get a chance to mark the wheels (like I normally would to check if something like that has been done).
Normally nissan wouldn't offer you wheel rotation unless you ask for it 1st. I had to ask them everytime I wanted my wheels rotated (including today)
quote: I'll probably be doing my own rotation including the spare either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, as I have a slow leak in one tyre (which seems to stop deflating once it gets to about 18PSI) and I don't want it to blow up on me during our trip to Canberra this weekend.
How are you going to rotate the wheels yourself? considering that they need to be roated in an "X" direction (just guessing).
I'm one of those old-fashioned people who doesn't like using his spare tyre so I would prefer to fix the leak rather than use the spare. at 18psi it's probably set for beach driving already and they shouldn't blow-up on you, as the tyres are tubeless.

Alloy Wheels Problem
Hi Guys,
The earlier problem I reported yesterday has been fixed today by my local Bob Jane T-mart shop and they installed the hub ring locators for me for $18 and it has solved my earlier problem.
2 parties I can blame for causing this problem:
1. The nissan dealer which installed these alloys for me 2 years ago without putting the hub rings in (highly unlikely)
2. The current dealer who rotated the wheels for me and probably misplaced the hub rings that were there or they just fell-off at the dealership without anyone noticing them.
Anyway, the new hub rings are made out of alloy, compared to the normal plastic ones which are being inserted by nearly all tyre shops.
These should last me for a while.
Problem solved and instead of paying $40 next Monday, it cost me $18 today

Re: Service Costs Comparison
wheel rotation done. I didn't time myself, but it took longer than usual with today's lovely 42degree heat. Luckily the southerly came half-way through and it cooled down abit.
PROCEDURE I USED:
spare --> front driver's side.
front driver's side --> rear passenger's side.
rear passenger's side to front passenger's side.
front passenger's side to rear driver's side (the one with the slow leak)
rear driver's side to spare.
I don't know if this is the correct procedure, but I didn't want to leave the more-than-half-worn (approx 2mm to the tread depth indicator) front passenger side tyre on the front with the brand new spare on the front driver's side, in case it caused any problems with gearbox (different rotational diameters). The tyres originally on the rear have about 1/2 to 2/3 tread depth remaining (approx 3-4mm to the wear indicator). The unused spare has about 5mm to the tread-depth indicator). I took some photos of the tread depth, but they didn't come out very well (tread blocks cast shadows in the tread and make it difficult to judge the depth. When taking the photos, I should've stuck a 5c piece or a match head in the tread as a better indication of tread depth remaining).
I didn't take it for a test-drive, so I hope there's no problems for our trip to Canberra! I double-checked all nuts were tight, though!

Spark Plugs
Hi Guys,
I forgot to mention earlier, that my spark plugs got changed at the 40,000km service.
When I asked the service mgr what type of spark plugs they used, he told me, just the normal nissan spark plugs (I think he said NGK)
When I asked him about the platinum-tipped sparks, he said none of the xtrails imported to Australia have those type of plugs fitted.

Re: Service Costs Comparison
If you’re an X-Trail owner and your getting your X-Trail serviced through your local Nissan dealer, you have every right to ask them for the “Service Schedule Price List” and they should supply it on demand, no questions asked. I don’t know if many people know this?
No need for pussy footing around and secretly jotting notes off their boards, just front them direct.
This way you’ll know if you’re getting ripped off or not. You can expect $5-$10 or so increase each year due to inflation.
But then again, I’m sure every dealership is different and charges different prices??
Perhaps we could create a list of the cheapest services in the country, whilst noting location. Then for example if your 40k service is $60 more expensive then somewhere else, you can quote that you get the same service cheaper elsewhere?
Kind Regards

Re: Service Costs Comparison
Just thought you guys would like to know that John Robinson Nissan at Rockdale, offer discounts to long serving customers.
I took my 02 Xtrail TI in for a 40K service in December last year, price on the board $345, reduced to $285 including a wash. Although I did'nt buy the car from them, I have been servicing the car there since the very first service. On occasions I have also scored a Pulsar courtesy car at no cost.
